Low supply breastmilk

After 9 weeks of breastfeeding I still don't have enough milk for my LO.... this is so discouraging knowing that I put him on my breast all day and all night but my supply still has not improved!! How long does it took you to provide enough? Is there still hope?

Power pumping, eating lots of garlic /Fenugreek in diet and fish. Taking vitamins pumping princess and liquid gold vitamins.

Get a pump and pump every feed xx

Your body will produce as much milk as it thinks your baby needs. Has your baby’s latch been checked? They might not be very efficient drinking quite yet which is causing your body to think it doesn’t need to produce as much milk

Why do you think your supply is low?

As above, what makes you think you have low supply? Is baby exclusively feeding from the breast or are you pumping as well/instead? Pumping isn’t an indicator of supply as babies are far more efficient at removing milk from the breast. As long as baby is gaining good weight and having enough wet and dirty nappies you know they are getting enough.

How do you know you haven’t got food supply? It could just be that your body has now got used to making enough and it is normal to not feel full in your breasts at this point and it can just mean that your support has become more efficient.

It’s hard to know without further details but you may not have low milk supply. Have a look at this article from a lactation consultant x https://www.emmapickettbreastfeedingsupport.com/blog/low-milk-supply-101

Don’t recommend fenugreek, it lowers supply even more in a lot of women

@Melissa this was a mind blowing article thankyou! I thought I might have low milk supply because my breast felt empty and baby would always drink a bit of formula after feed. Fall asleep while breastfeeding as well, then when expressing nothing was coming out

@Djilly hopefully you feel reassured now? That is a great article Melissa shared. Soft breasts are happy breasts, and they will always produce more milk as it is more like a river than a lake if that makes sense. Have you been advised to give formula top ups or are you just offering because you thought your supply was low? X
