The silver nipple shields are brilliant and also the catch cups that you can wear in your bra (get the ones with the stopper rather than an open hole as you forget you have them in and when you lean over, milk pours out 😂). Often I leaked a lot of milk from the opposite side when I was feeding so being able to collect the milk in a catch cup was brilliant if you also wanted to freeze it and try feeding the baby breastmilk from a bottle later down the line. I found nipple shields very useful to have initially (and can give some relief if you have cracked nipples) but it’s not advised to use them long term :)
Breast pads and nipple cream. That's about it. I've also got a Hakka ( silicone pump) just to put on the other side to catch any milk that leaks. There are other brands and ones that sit more comfortably in the bra, too. 😊
@Megan They are 👍👍👍
I bought some formula/pre made bottles just in case baby doesn’t latch on or in case I don’t produce. Also means I can combi feed as well. My family have mostly been born with tongue ties which can affect breast feeding so I just wanted to be prepared for every circumstance. Amazon is always good if you realise you need something last minute but as long as you’ve got breast pads and cream to start with you can figure it out as you go 🙌🏻
As long as you have some comfortable nursing bras and/or vests, you'll be OK.
Once you get established you can think about a pump, a nice comfy breast feeding cushion, maybe some nursing clothes.
Hakka or like a milk collector for your other boobie let down when you breastfeeding your little one x and silver nipple shields which I also still need to get . And breast milk storage bags x
What cream did you get? I found pure lanolin best. I also had these little pads that sat in my bra which I could either microwave or chill. So nice! Silverettes are good but they’re expensive so maybe only buy those if you feel you need them at the time. It could be handy to have a Haaka or Ladybugs, something like that to catch letdown from one breast while you feed off the other. You can freeze it to get ahead. So don’t forget to buy BM storage bags! I’d be wary of spending big $ on lactation cookies and drinks etc as they’re a gimmick with no proof at increasing supply and the cost really adds up! I agree stay away from pumps dummies and bottles in the early weeks (despite what some people tell you) Oh and definitely a feeding pillow!
@Genevieve I got the same cream my friend told me so…
Nursing bras and a couple of the nursing vest tops (h&m). Agree there isn't much point in buying loads but with my first I kinda assumed I didn't need nursing bras and then was all sorts of uncomfy until I bought them
I got a breastfeeding pillow, a little stool (really helps raising your feet on a stool when feeding), a Haakaa, a breast pump, nipple cream, nipple pads and silver nipple shields.
Ive heard the silver nipple shields are an absolute life saver for breastfeeding when your nipples are sore so im planning on trying those!
