Breastfeeding and baby sleeping through the night

Normally my boy would sleep 4 hours and then 3 hours at night time, but the last two nights he started sleeping for 6 hours and then 3. This has led to me being very engorged and breasts are sore now, I'm scared of it leading to mastitis. What do you guys do when baby sleeps through the night if you're breastfeeding to prevent mastitis/ painful engorgement?

All depends on your supply but my son does the same stretches in the night and I’ve just been leaking and had to change bras and breast pads in the morning. I would either pump the milk out when your baby was due a feed or just wait it out to see if your supply levels out. I’m enjoying the sleep and I pump in the day rather than night!

How would you feel about pumping? Or even hand expressing a little bit for comfort? Maybe give that a try. But I think if he carries on sleeping through and won’t need those feeds, eventually your body will get used to not producing as much milk at those times so you won’t be full and sore

Your body will adjust to the change in supply, just takes time. Best not to pump as it maintains the supply you have causing the engorgement, but to hand express for comfort x

If you don’t have a pump try using a manual hakka pump, it has helped me by releasing just enough to keep me going till next feed and you only need to use it for a few minutes.

I've been careful not to pump since I don't want to create an over supply and make matters worse. Will try and wait it out and hopefully it evens out. Putting ice packs on and taking ibuprofen in case tonight, hopefully it helps 🙈

Just let some milk out when you feel engorged Either with a pump or even hand expressing over a sink Your breasts need time to adjust to the longer stretches - it does in a few days!
