My eldest said basic words also, mainly 2 word sentences (covid baby) but my second was saying 3 and some 4 word sentences by 2 years old. Your going to feel like a parrot but continue talking, explaining what you are doing and get them to repeat the words. "what's mommy doing?" "mummy is cooking" etc
So my daughter didn’t start talking until she was almost 4 and I mean full sentences…her speech started dramatically picking up about 7 months before she turned 4 and she started speech therapy a few mos after she turned 3 which is in May so yes a sever speech deficit that’s totally mild now and will only get better with time and my daughter experienced meconium aspiration at birth…But some kids are also really just late talkers
@Tiffany turns 2 in December
My son was the same around 2. Then the next 6months he just started to say more and in sentences. My son is 4 now and I still get surprised by some of the things he says
every baby is different so don’t worry too much just yet :) My daughter just turned 2 though and her vocabulary is crazy. I lost track of her words around 18 months , she can say hundreds! And is starting to talk in small sentences. I think she’s just gifted lol
Every baby is different, my daughter was saying plenty of words before she could walk. She's a little gossip, she always prioritized her language skills over motor skills. She didn't even rollover until she was 7 months old and she was already saying "mama", "dada", and signing some words.
Mine started saying a lot of stuff here lately: from chicken patty to table to sky and bunny lol very random words and sometimes I wonder how he memorizes the weirdest ones. I think it’s all about conversations and repeating things to him all the time
So here’s what I’ve noticed. When my son first turned 2, he was the same way. Just a few words. But his grasp on language has shown obvious improvement over the last 6 months. He might not pronounce all the new words perfectly yet lol but he understands the concept. A lot of my friends kiddos also have very similar development patterns, by the time they turn 3, you can’t get them to stop talking lol. Every child is different of course, but that’s been my personal experience. Did your little guy turn 2 recently?
