Breastfeeding after c section

By baby was born 36 hours ago. The c section was an emergency one after an induction and 6 hours of labour and strong contractions. She latches at both boobs straight after she came out. Bow she is super sleepy and when she eats it's on and off and she tends to fall asleep during sucking. I am expressing too and I do have milk. Trying to stimulate her sucking reflex with my pinkie so I can give her the colostrum syringes. I am doing a lot of skin to skin. She just seems so sleepy. Pediatrician at the hospital visited her and she is all good. No red flags. Any suggestions or expertise with this?

Totally normal for them to be sleepy at this stage! They will eat when they’re hungry. Try not to pump unless you’re going to bottle feed at this stage otherwise you could end up with an over supply. Have a look around for local breast feeding groups. They are amazing to pop along too. Also this girl on Instagram was super helpful when we started our feeding journey https://www.instagram.com/olivia_lactation_consultant?igsh=MW5jem9jMWlpdHg0ag== Also pop me a message for any other questions. Been through it all after a section and now a well established ebf baby x

It's normal and this will be an usual behaviour for the first few months. Try to stimulate them while they are at the breast, I was rubbing her back like tickling near her ears back etc to wake her up, try undressing her (not now but once home) if they feel cozy and everything they will tend to sleep more and eat less. But don't worry it's totally normal.

@Hannah not necessarily she will end up with an oversupply. I pumped from the first day as I wasn't able to latch right away and never had any problems. Never leaked or anything else.

Thank you!!

It’s normal for baby to get sleepy and keep falling asleep. Just keep stroking baby’s cheek to trigger that sucking reflex. Eventually baby won’t keep falling asleep so much

Newborn babies pretty much sleep first week or two, their wake windows are probably half hour every few hours. If your wanting to keep her awake during the feed so she has a longer feed I would suggest stripping her, feed her in her vest or even go down to the nappy if she still sleeping and stopping feed. Also stroke her cheek, arms/legs
