Help and advice

When baby is born (hopefully 18th dec) I am hoping to breast feed but going to buy these just incase my milk doesn’t come in, baby doesn’t latch or any other problems! Any idea when to buy these and how many? Thanks x

With my first the midwife advised not to buy formula if you wanted to exclusively breastfeed because if it’s in the house you’ll more likely use it. And I have to agree as while the first 4 days was really tough, we got through it(milk took 4.5 days to come in post c section) and if we had some there we most likely would have caved. But we didn’t, got through it and then I BF for 9 months. So depends how strong willed etc you are, no right or wrong way but that’s what worked well for us last time :)

I got some in boots & Sainsbury’s

@Sophie I agree with you here. Best thing is not to get this stuff if you want to BF x

I agree with above! I didn't have any formula or bottles in with my first. If you are worried about a back up in the first couple of days then I would suggest harvesting some colostrum for piece of mind! I used it in the first day or two when he was a bit too sleepy to feed as much. Then if you really feel like you need formula, you can send your partner/family member out to get some from any supermarket really quickly in an emergency - baby won't starve! And in that case - these ready made ones are super easy, but obviously a newborn won't drink a full one so can be quite wasteful x

We bought these before we had our first, even though I intended to breastfeed and tried, unsuccessfully. We just got the one pack (6 bottles) and bought them in Boots, they’re really long dated. Depends which camp you’re in as to whether you buy them or not because if there was a real issue the hospital absolutely would not let your baby starve, they will have some formula for emergencies. I personally just wanted to be prepared for every eventuality, hence having them x

I would say be prepared and take 6 with you. I had a c section and my milk took 2wks to come in. He was a big baby and we had to combi feed for those 2 weeks (as advised by midwife and lactation consultant)… breastfeed first and top up with formula. You never know what your situation will be… baby might have a tongue tie, your milk may take long and the last thing you want is to be unprepared. We had nothing with us in the hospital as I took advice not to take and it was awful, I was devastated but the midwives had on the ward and were very supportive.

Definitely be prepared and take a couple with you . Better to have and not need than to need and not have . I had a c section and my milk took a few days to come on so was able to give my daughter first infant milk and then breasts moving forward

I got ours is morrisons the dates long. I intend to Breastfeed but if nothing comes in and he needs formula in hospital I'd rather be prepared and pick that in advance than just use what the hospital may have for emergencies. I have only bought that one pack though and nothing else.

You probably don’t need to buy any as if you want to BF the hospital will support you and they have formula if you do need some. Have confidence in yourself. 😍 My little boy came early (32 weeks!) and we got home this week and we are exclusively breastfeeding, even though they said with preemies it’s really hard as your milk takes longer. If you need support when you are in, they will likely bend over backwards to help you. Good luck with it, and let us know how you get on xxxx
