Milk/ colostrum

Hi guys, I’m nearly 37 weeks and haven’t experienced any sort of leaking from Boobs yet. Has anyone been the same and been successful with harvesting colostrum? I wonder whether to try now.

With my first I never experienced any leaking. The first few times I tried I hardly got even a drop and was very disheartened but kept at it and had a decent stash in the freezer by the time he was born at 39 weeks

With my first I didn’t leak but managed to collect a good amount too

@Alice did you manage to express by hand?

@Jessica yes, it just took a couple of tries to get the hang of it. I found it much easier to sterilise I spoon then express onto that then collect with the syringe rather than straight into the syringe.

I never leaked with my first and never obtained colostrum prebirth. I had a super supply and nursed my son for 26 months (never gave him a drop of formula/cow's milk) - so if you find colostrum harvesting tricky or unsuccessful, do not be discouraged! It's not a sign of unsuccessful breastfeeding. ❤️

I never leaked in pregnancy and collected colostrum from 36 weeks. Always expressed by hand, used heat compress or shower before hand, massaged first then squeezed. I found it took me longer than the "10 minutes" they say. If I was harvesting, I would settle down with Netflix for a couple of hours and just go at it! Oh and I'm currently BF successfully as I type this! Your milk won't come in for a few days after birth because it's triggered by your placenta coming away so you won't leak milk yet.

I haven’t leaked a single drop, but I get quite a bit of colostrum when hand expressing now that I’ve got the technique down.

Did any of you notice any breast changes at all ? I am only 32 weeks and am not due until early January but I am very curious as I have not noticed any changes with my breasts and I find it hard to believe that in a few weeks I will be able to try and harvest! It’s making me quite worried x

@Shevaun my breast size and shape hasn’t changed, only difference is my areolas are the size of a dinner plate and dark brown now. It’ll be more nipple than boob at this rate lol
