It really is up to you, you can overfeed a baby with the bottle (not just formula) so making sure you allow baby to spit bottle out and don't force feed etc. You can do it either way, just be careful if you're dropping pumping sessions to not do too many at once to avoid risk of mastitis. Make sure baby is getting about 24 oz in a day
I had/ have this exact same issue. And I have a really hungry baby who just screams until satisfied. It's a minefield, really hard to manage particularly if you have a limited supply like me because you inevitably need to top them up when they show signs they're still hungry after you've BF them. But you don't know how much they've had so sticking to 60ml for example isn't always going to satisfy them. The feeding team and numerous professionals have warned us of over feeding, but then can't answer the question of how to manage it if combi feeding, they just say you need to responsively feed and not to worry too much.. If it's too much baby will bring it back up and to pace it little and often. It's pretty much trial and error at this point for us, he's been up to 5oz and now gone back down to 4oz but can have in bits like 3oz then 1oz a while later. The bottles made him less interested and lazy on the breast unfortunately. Can you get a referral to the infant feeding team? X
I think it depends on the weight of the baby. Mine wasn’t gaining or pooing so was referred to the infant feeding team at the hospital who advised to breastfeed then top up the feed with 60ml of either expressed or formula or a mixture and do this every 3 hours. She’s now gaining so they’re advising to reduce the top ups and she how her weight is.
