Have a bath or use a warm compress and massage your boobs first. The heat really makes a difference! Find where is best for you to hold your boob. All the videos say to have your fingers a couple of centimetres back from the areola, but for me that does nothing. I have to hold the edge of my areola. Take the lid off the syringe and move the plunger up and down to loosen it a bit first and use your thumb and ring folder to hold the syringe and middle and index fingers on both sides of the plunger to pull it down to catch the drops. With your other hand index finger and thumb in a c shape hold the breast, squeeze down, then release. Don’t slide or move forward and back, just up and down pressure. Press down, pause, release, repeat. Suck up the drops as they come out and pause to tap the air out and move the plunger back up. For me it takes a few minutes of this to get bigger drops out. I also find I get lots from one boob and next to nothing from the other.
@Abbie how did you start with this? Not something ive thought of doing yet 🙈😅
Don’t be disheartened if you don’t get a lot. I couldn’t get any colostrum, in fact after my first born came I never could hand express a drop and I didn’t leak either. My body holds tight to its milk but my boy fed great exclusively at the breast
With my first it took me about a week of persevering to actually get anything worth saving so don’t give up even if you only get a little at first. I also collected more during the early stages of labour and it was flowing much easier then!
Thank you. How long do you do the hot compress and massage for beforehand?
@Kerry i bought some syringes from Amazon and just thought I’d give it a go from 37 weeks. I’ve only got 2 syringes so far with less than 0.2ml in each 🤦♀️🤣
Keep at it. With my first, the more days I did it the more I got after a number of days. So hopefully in time it’ll increase
