Pumping

Hey. I’m 26 weeks pregnant and have been leaking Colostrum like crazy. Is it okay to start pumping and saving the colostrum?

No. You can hand express colostrum from around 36/37 weeks Before that if you're leaking lots you could just use a ladybird collector to catch it but you shouldn't be actively getting it out There is no need to pump before giving birth. Colostrum is thick and hard for a pump to handle Plus it has no impact on milk supply. Birthing the placenta is what triggers the production of mature milk

@Aimee where could one get a ladybird collector?

Google milk collection shells or haakaa ladybug (not the normal haakaa though as that uses suction)

The haakaa Ladybug also uses suction!

It’s not recommended to start manually collecting colostrum/pumping until you are 37+weeks due to the chance of causing premature labor, it’s basically used as a way to help kind of induce labor causing contractions. You can most definitely use collector cups as stated before to catch whatever you might want to keep as of right now though! But any midwife/doula/doctor will also tell you it’s not safe to pump before 37weeks 😊
