Sore nipples! 😥

Me and my LO are still working on our latch while breastfeeding and my nipples get extremely sore especially at night when I’m tired and maybe not doing it as well. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips? I’ve got lanolin cream and those little silver cups to wear after feeding that I use sometimes. And how much soreness is “normal”? I don’t want to put myself through agony but also do expect some discomfort. Thanks!

You might be allergic to lanolin! Plus ensuring the latch is good at night will definitely help. Try a more natural balm for your nipples but I loved the silver cups too. How old is baby?

He’s 10 weeks but was six weeks early so we’ve only really been able to fully start breast feeding recently as he couldn’t latch at first and then I was too worried about him losing weight so I just expressed 8 times a day to keep supply in . That’s a good point about lanolin. I think he’s allergic to it as he had a very sore bum when I used any lanolin products and is much better now I’m not! What would you recommend ?

I use sudocrem and metanium for my daughter’s bum. Not the most natural I’ll admit but they do the job well. For my nipples I used the Mama Mio one and found it great along with the silver nipple shields/guards. Have you had support either your latch etc?

Both of those made his rash worse unfortunately but castor oil and zinc has been the miracle cure..so far!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼 I’ll order that nipple cream though - thank you!!

Oh yes infant team has been really good actually - I am hoping practice will make perfect … maybe! Xx

Look into ‘the Thompson Method’. There is an online course you can purchase and also 1 on 1 help via Skype if you need it. I highly recommend Rachel if it’s something you’d like to pursue. I had a rough time establishing breastfeeding and experienced a lot of nipple pain. Sorry to hear you’re having troubles too. It does get better!
