Head banging on purpose

My toddler 15 months bangs his head and starts crying he does it on purpose. Even while we are playing, he'll smile and go down and bang his head off the floor rub it and cry is this normal? I'm a ftm and have no idea he sometimes does it on the wall or with his hand, but straight after he rubs it and wants a cuddle and kiss why does he do this? Anybody

My little one was the same! I noticed he did it when he was overtired & due a nap or was getting frustrated with a toy activity! I’ve been told it’s quite common in 1years old & up! More common in boys than girls, It can help them self soothe if they’re getting tired, help deal with any frustration they’re feeling or some can do it for attention! I don’t react to it cause he normally does it against the couch! Unless I think he will hurt himself, my doctor told me to just ignore it and give attention once he’s stopped doing it, just keep an eye on him!

My little boy did this too - never did find a reason. But now at 18m he only does it if he’s really frustrated or isn’t getting his own way after multiple attempts, and is quickly distracted. X

My daughter bangs her head in the crib all the time to avoid going to sleep. Her pediatrician said it's developmentally normal for some kids? Idk, I'm hoping she grows out of it 🤷🏻‍♀️
