Weaning off the boob

Hi, baby is 9 months and has 5 teeth, so breastfeeding is very painful now and I’m miserable. I’ve tried several times to wean him off the boob and onto formula but he turns his nose up at it and throws the bottle then throws a tantrum. I feel so cruel withholding the boob, so I end up giving in. I don’t know what to do anymore and I’m so frustrated and feel so angry at times, I know it’s not his fault but I want to end this journey before my good memories of it are tarnished, it used to be magical and I loved it but I’m tired of being bitten 😭 any tips or tricks or words of advice welcome

Are they teething? My boy can become more bitey when teething, which then stopped omce the teeth were through, I just take him straight off and try again a bit later, dunno if that's helps

@Abbie Yes he is and I take him straight off, just for him to do it again when he’s back on the boob again. I want to stop breastfeeding completely, I’m not enjoying it anymore, there’s been lots of tears and frustration from me

My little one has never taken bottle but we have had some success with sippy cups, I think he’s got used to taking water in them with weaning and when we’ve offered milk in them he has taken this reasonably well. We also use a Doidy cup a meal times which is a slanted open cup you could maybe give something like that a go

@Georgina He takes a bottle of breastmilk just fine, but the formula he just isn’t taking at all. I’ve tried several different ones as well 😭 I’ll give the sippy cup a go, he drinks water from those so I’ll give it a try 🤞🏼

Have you tried goats milk formula? It’s the only one mine will take as it’s a little sweeter and mimics the taste of BM more. We use the nannycare one, not cheap though!

@Siân I haven’t tried that yet, I’ll give it a go tomorrow though! Thank you for the suggestion 🤞🏼

Exactly same position as you….my boy has transitioned very well to kendamil goat…..he still bf at night and he’s not bitey as he’s half asleep, however not sure how long my limited milk supply will last now

@shell I was trying to avoid kendamil as it seems to hard to get hold of, but I’ve got a bottle of the premade one so will try it and stock up if he likes it lol

I get it in Sainsbury’s and never had a problem….but I think the normal one is difficult to get I’ve not seen the goat one pre-made but would be very interested if they did
