Saying Mama

Hello mommas, I’m stressing out as my LO doesn’t say MAMA yet! He says dada and few more words he’s “chatting” a lot but don’t call me mama. I read online that if by 15 months doesn’t say mama, should be seen by a paediatrician and get some hearing tests. Anyone else experience?

My daughter 15 month and she can't mama. She can dadda and few more words. Mama is hard for them to say. I was told that when my oldest was little as she wasnt saying mummy and was calling me baby for long time.

My boy is 15mth and say nom nom instead of mama. I wouldn't worry about it yet as long as they are chattering/babbling.

I spoke to the HV about this last week and they really weren't worried. They asked if baby responded to sound/their name (so checking for hearing) and so long as they are babbling then it is all fine apparently 🤷

My baby is 17months old. Doesn’t say Mama or anything like that. We have Daddy, Ball, Wow, Car, Hello but no Mama…. I’m starting to take it personal to be honest

My baby wasn’t saying Mama and started two weeks ago at 21 months. I was worried he was slow to speaking but now the words are coming very fast.

Thank you for your responses :) It makes me feel a bit relieved.. as everybody is asking me “is he saying mama” like is a must at this stage.. and I hear at nursery the other toddlers call for their mamas…

@Sarah I hear you!! Same!!!

My LO only says mamma when he wants something and everything else is bubba - no other words at all although he understands nearly everything I say. I was starting to get worried as he isn’t talking especially as my eldest started speaking and counting before he was even one but then I remember that every child is different so I shouldn’t be comparing him to his brother or any other child
