Drinking and feeding

So I've been told that for one drink, I'd have to pump then have my drink, then throw the next pumped milk away. How does it work when I want to have a weekend away with my hubby and have good nights where I get a little ratchet? 😅

One drink shouldn’t do much to your milk, I was told if you sleep on it over night then the alcohol should leave your system by the next day so you should be good to pump or breastfeed that milk to baby

That’s outdated info. You would have to drink a ton of alcohol for it to be even the same amount of alcohol that is in a ripe banana or orange juice, as breast milk is a blood product- so the alcohol level is the same that is your BAC. For example if your BAC is 0.08 % ( around four drinks usually), that is less alcohol than there is in orange juice ( 0.5 %) . So if would be ok with the alcohol levels in Oj and giving your baby that, then you should definitely be ok with feeding even directly after drinking. Don’t waste your breast milk and don’t dump it. The real risk and why it is recommended to drink with caution is caring for your baby safely as well as if you regularly drink you can decrease your milk supply.

When I do this. I usually stop drinking at like 1am and then not pump or nurse until 1pm the next day. But I was told if you feel drunk your milk is drunk and to never pump or dump. Also the Frida alcohol strips work for a peace of mind.

Throwing milk away won’t get it out. The alcohol content leaves milk like it does your blood. The amount that would get into your milk if you pumped after one drink would be so minimal it’d be nearly nonexistent or detectable- if you’re worried, mix the milk with a different pump to further dilute
