Combo feeding

Help me with combo feeding please... we've been having issues with soy and milk in my breastmilk... we think we narrowed it down to soy being the culprit. I'm now going to try to be soy and dairy free for the next month. Nov 4 my babe weighed 9lbs 8.5oz and today he weighed 9lbs 15oz. So our doctor is now extremely considered about his weight gain. I can't use any of my breastmilk I have stored right now due to milk and soy being in there. So I don't have enough to start work on Monday. Our doc gave us formula to add to his BM bottles or to just feed him with that. I'm really leaning towards combo feeding- formula bottles when I'm at work (and I'll still pump to maintain my supply) and then when I'm with him nurse him. But how would that work on my days off? Should I still offer a formula bottle after nursing to make sure he's getting the extra calories? Just looking for advice and support. Thank you.

Hi! Hugs, you're doing great! These sensitive bellies can be tricky. We have not used formula but I plan to use Kendamil goat if needed to avoid the dairy. My girl also seems to have a sensitive belly and I've heard many good things of the Kendamil goat. Is his weight concerning? My pediatrician said that at this age babies should gain .5 to 1oz of weight per day and based on your weights given it seems like your boy has gained that?

@Samantha thank you! I have thought about kendamil goat too. If we continue with formula we might make that switch. Our pediatrician is concerned with his weight gain as he has fallen off his growth curve. The November 4 weight he was 3% percentile for weight at his age. And as of today I'm assuming he was lower than that. It's definitely hard cause my girls I was able to breastfed for 14m with no problems... so I'm having a hard time with this.

Awww I'm sorry. Feeding and BF especially I have found to be a major Rollercoaster. Oh, ok the curve. That makes sense. My girly was slow to gain weight so I was told the .5 to 1oz rule and always calculate what her weight should be before we get to her appt. It makes me a little well a lot anxious. Hoping you find the right formula. Mixing with some fresh breastmilk should help esp since you changed your diet.

Hey! I am an exclusive pumper I don’t make a lot but was determined that she gets all the value of the breast milk. I feed 3oz of BM and 2 oz of formula each feeding. We also had to go through 5 different formulas and have had to settle with the hypoallergenic nutramigen. Which has been a game changer.
