Anyone had the drip to induce labour ??

I’m 40 weeks and 2 days over, my waters broken yesterday afternoon so we went in the hospital and because I wasn’t having any contractions they sent me home for 24 hours an to go back at 4:30pm today, they said I would get a drip to start off labour?? Iv been induced before but that was the gel so Iv never had the drip before ? Can anyone tell me what it’s like ?? 🙈😂 so I have an image in my head to prepare myself for later (I highly doubt I’ll go in before 4:30pm as the contractions im having are too far apart and more of a tightness than pain)

They hook you up to monitors for baby heartbeat and movement and the drip goes in your iv, they slowly increase the dose on the drip, the contractions started up within half an hour for me! unfortunately for me it pushed my contractions back to back at 4cm and affected baby’s heartbeat so we ended in c section. one thing nobody told me was if the contractions get too much you can ask them to turn it down/ off 🙂

The drip is a weird one when I had it it only worked on half of my body and really caused me to stop the labour then help it push it along I was in labour for 96 hours and only got to 3cm before an emergency c section

Unfortunately the drip can cause contractions to be extremely intense so I would make sure you know your pain relief options now so you are prepared

@Jess agree, the pain was unbearable and came on so quickly. I don’t know how anyone does it without epidural 🥲

Hi hun. I had the drip with my first as I wasn't dialating enough it was very positive for me tbh. It worked and helped me dialate quick. I was able to cope with just gas and air nothing else. It was 7 hours from the drip going in till baby coming out. Just want to say good luck and how exciting soon you'll have your bubba in your arms 💙

I had my waters broken at 38 weeks but was already 5 or so cm dilated beforehand, and the oxytocin drip was started after 1 hour on the lowest setting and within a couple of hours the contractions were so painful, back to back and then I asked for an epidural but when they checked they said there was no time for it and baby was crowning. She was born just over an hour later.

So I’d been contracting for days before my waters broke and when I went to the hospital they offered me it as I was only 3cm dilated but my contractions were every 3 mins. I had a positive experience with it- It brought the contractions to every minute but I managed them with breathing exercises and gas and air x

I had the drip because I had PPROM. It was a terrible experience (couldn't move around much, no rest between contractions, and made me push against a closed cervix) BUT it was effective. I had bub within 8 hours of being induced. I ended up having an epidural and just fell asleep while the sinto did its thing.

I had drip first time it was fine. I did have an epidural pretty quickly though so I don't know about if it was more painful or not. Didn't have the drip with labour no 2 though and still hurt like a bitch!

Every time I've had pitocin, it's caused REALLY painful and intense contractions. I absolutely could not have done it without getting an epidural as well.

Thank you everyone for the advice and experiences 🥰 when I had my first I had to get induced because I went to 42 weeks, I had the gel put in twice I think but that was the worst experience ever I wouldn’t wish it on anyone and they wouldn’t give me an epidural either just kept saying to hang on 😂 iv been having contractions since yesterday but there like 15/20 mins apart and not that painful just tightening xx

I won't lie the drip is bloody horrific I mean it does work. I had it put in at 12 & she was born 4 they do up it every half hour tho but the contractions were back to back non stop & they were awful. I also did it on no pain relief. Ask for an epidural if you are worried about the pain but out of all my labours that was the best one because I did it without pain relief I was fully in control of my body x

I went to my doctor’s appointment at 1pm and knew I was in labor with my second. The doctor told me to try and wait until tomorrow because he had dinner plans. I went to the hospital at 8pm and I was 5 cm dilated. Within an hour he started me on pitocin and broke my water. I’m so mad about that to this day, I wish I had the guts to speak up but I was young and didn’t know any better. Anyways, after that it went super fast. My son was born at 11pm. I did have an epidural but it didn’t work. The pain is excruciating because you get zero relief in between contractions. There’s no time to breathe before you get another one. I can’t comment if that’s due to the pitocin or not though, since I had it with both of my births.

I’ll speak to them once we get the hospital, obviously I had the gel with my first an I had absolutely no clue about labour or the pain 🙈 but with my second I went into labour naturally and it was the best labour ever I’d do it again! Hoping this one does it like that, I don’t like the gas and air so won’t be having that, I’ll see if I can get the epidural if not then diamorphine 😂😂 xx

The drip made my contractions really painful no time to breath was on the gas and air no break from it as u have one contraction after the other and to the point i asked for an epidural, let the anaesthetist set it all up to then be fully dilated , but I was so exhausted afterwards and was tired and struggled to care for my baby as I was so exhausted from the drip ,

I was told having an epidural may slow my labour down and could result in forceps or an emergency c section but could be different for everyone else
