Colostrum

Colostrum - I have been harvesting colostrum and due any day. I didn’t make enough milk with my first (History of breast surgery, mole removal near nipple and suspected tubular breasts/hypoplasia) Do I give this as a supplement from day 1 or wait and see? My first had jaundice and didn’t poop day 3-10. I will of course breastfeed on demand and hand express extra but is it worth giving them a boost in those early days? I know the second night is very tricky!

In my own opinion, I think it should be given from day 1 because that is the milk they would first be getting and since they just came out and their immune system is so weak, they need that extra boost from the start. I will be collecting colostrum before birth and giving it to baby starting day one.

Start day 1. Baby needs that from the start.

If you give baby the colostrum you harvested it will take away from nursing at the breast and lower chances at good breastfeeding journey. Save it for a rainy day or for when baby will be sick and focus on nursing on demand

@✨Wis 🇭🇹 I’ve never heard anything like that… why would it take away from nursing at the breast?

@Rowan if baby is full, baby won’t want to nurse as much. It’s like when you supplement with formula. It takes away time you could spend nursing. Does that make sense?
