Mum guilt šŸ˜”

Long story short, Iā€™ve been pregnant twice in the past three years! I breastfed my first child until he turned 1 year old. My second is almost 4 months now, but I donā€™t feel the same energy for breastfeeding anymore. Iā€™ve been through a lot emotionally recently, but thatā€™s not my babyā€™s fault. Still, Iā€™m not enjoying it anymore šŸ˜’. My partner doesnā€™t understand either. I donā€™t want to stop, but at the same timeā€¦ We started combining bottles with breastfeeding because his weight dropped a bit in September when I wasnā€™t feeling myself. To help his weight pick up faster, we decided to combine formula and breastfeeding. Heā€™s totally fineā€”heā€™s a happy baby. But as for me, Iā€™m not sure where I stand with breastfeeding. I feel like my milk supply isnā€™t enough anymore, and I have less milk than before. I feel bad to have this feeling.. as he only 4 month old..

I had this. When I gave birth I wanted to breastfeed but she just werenā€™t latching properly I kept trying but she wouldnā€™t have got enough milk. However, I got sepsis and had to be on antibiotics and there was only one type and I couldnā€™t breastfeed so obviously I had to take them and not breastfeed anymore and actually I feel so much better for it, sheā€™s healthy, only lost 2oz birth weight and got her weight up really quick by feeding her formula! Fed is best girl, donā€™t let anyone tell you any different! And if it makes you happier itā€™ll make your little one happier! I hope this helpsšŸ«¶

Listen, breastfeeding takes it out of you. Nobody knows that better than you right now in your close circle, ok? :) Do whatever you feel like doing. If you want to keep combi-feeding and it works for you and your baby seems to thrive off it then do that until you feel like slowly reducing the breast feeds. If you feel like stopping breastfeeding sooner as you just can't take it anymore, then just make sure he is really taking to a good number of basic food items - say 5-6-7-8 things that you can rotate then a few (healthy) snacks (fruit/veg type things) that he loves too before you rely more on food. Whatever you do, consult yourself first and then let your partner know and anyone else that needs to know but first you and your partner. The others will find out when they see you. Don't ever feel guilty about your choice. Good Luck!

Remember the best choice for your baby is the choice that allows you to be at your best as you canā€™t pour from an empty cup your baby has had all that amazing colostrum at the start of their life plus 4 amazing months of breast milk you have nothing to feel guilty for!
