Does anyone top up their breastfeeds with formula?

I’ve been topping up with expressed milk but the consistency is like water so I don’t feel the calories are really there and my baby is dropping centiles. Has anyone had this problem and topped up with formula instead or gave a feed of formula per day and saw the benefits? Thank you

My baby dropped slightly on the centiles this weigh in. I felt a bit shocked as I feel like she is constantly feeding. The only thing I can put it down to is I feed her to sleep so maybe she is falling asleep before she is fully full. I always feed her again when she wakes too though so no idea! She has put on 16g a day as opposed to the recommended 20g. A bit disheartening as she has sat on the 50th centile and been tracking the curve perfectly until now. I am worried my supply is dwindling. The HV suggested I switch feed. I’ve been trying this as apparently it helps them to get to the fattier milk. Formula would be my last resort so I am going to weigh her again in a couple of weeks and see if the switch feeding can help catch her up x

When you express milk how long are you pumping for? Could it be that you are only collecting the fore milk which is quite watery and not the fatty hind milk which is a bit thicker, as this can take 15 mins to come out (from what I’ve been told)? When I was exclusively pumping during weeks 8-11 due to tongue tie/nipple trauma my LO dropped a centile and the HV made me feel awful that I’d been pumping instead of breastfeeding and said that my LO would probably be getting more out of the breast than what I was giving her in a bottle, but I think in hindsight I wasn’t pumping long enough during each session to collect the fatty hind milk x

My little one dropped two centiles in the first couple of months. He wasn't huge to begin with and ended up dropping to the 0.4th centile. I tried everything to try and increase my milk supply in that time, but he still wasn't gaining properly so we started supplementing him with one bottle of formula on a night when he was 10 weeks. He's now 16 weeks, putting weight on properly and is slowly going back up the centiles. All it took was 120ml of formula a day, just increased to 150ml, just for a few extra calories. My milk is also very 'watery' and I struggle to find time to pump most days, and while it was disheartening at first, the formula top up has helped
