Metformin

Has anyone found Metformin making them feel sick/be sick the following day after taking them the evening before? I had a couple of days where I hadn't taken them, the sickness seemed to go, started them again and the sickness seems really awful again.

It made me feel horrible and made my poop a lot

Yeah, I've been on slow release Metformin and normal Metformin. The normal made me throw up after taking them in my first pregnancy. During my second pregnancy, they gave me slow release Metformin which didn't make me feel soo unwell. So maybe ask for slow release if you can't seem to take them at all without throwing up

@Victoria Aguilar I just put it down to terrible morning sickness, but I think it could be these tablets! Shame it's not making me poop, I could do with it actually doing that 😂

@Katie I think the ones I have now are slow release, the tablets are huge! It seems okay when I take it in the evening, then next morning I feel really sick and seems to be when I take the Metformin

@Hannah it pissed me off so bad that I completely stopped taking them I regret doing that bc that made me get on insulin 🫠🤣

@Victoria Aguilar haha I'm literally at that stage! I've got an appointment Thursday, I'm going to ask for something else. Did the insulin make you feel the same?

@Hannah not at 1st when I was on a low dose but they kept bumping it up it was on 18 units in the morning and night 16units before meals that's when it started burning and started making me have this weird taste In my mouth and made me feel sick

@Victoria Aguilar ohh great! That does not fill me with much hope 😂 What were your readings?

@Hannah im no longer pregnant thank god! I had her 10/19 at 36w6d (she decided to make her appearance that night) and they were pretty high morning ranged from 99 to 138 after meals was 140 to 160

@Hannah when I was normal it made me sick really badly. The slow release didn't make me feel sick but I had bad morning sickness with my second so I could of just had that as well

@Katie do you mean when your readings were normal?

@Victoria Aguilar did they try and push for you to have C-section or induction?

@Hannah no I was already gonna have a c section regardless bc I had 3 previous ones they just bumped it from 39wks to 38wks bc of the insulin

@Hannah normal one to get my readings normal I was on 4 tablets a day with my first. With my second I was on 1 tablet a day. So taking 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening of the normal one made me sick

@Victoria Aguilar ah okay, fair enough

@Katie I'm sure the ones I've now got are slow release and don't seem to make any difference 🤢 Did you get put on insulin?

I was absolutely ILL from it, soon as I took it I couldn’t leave the bathroom for hours. My readings were actually the highest I’d been getting as well and in all honestly I just felt like utter 💩 I’ve now been put on insulin just before my evening meal and honestly what a difference it’s made. I didn’t really want to go on insulin but it’s definitely helped me x

@Hannah no i didn't. But I did skip some of my tablets

@Chantelle once you were on insulin did you stop feeling sick? These tablets are bloody awful!! I kept telling myself it was because I'd eaten sugar, but even when I don't it makes me feel so sick then I'm constantly throwing up the next day! It's awful! Xx

@Hannah yes!! the first day I took it just before I felt so sick but that was definitely nerves but since then I’ve been fine taking it. I only managed 4 days on metformin because it had me that unwell. I’d definitely speak to your midwife or the diabetes team. Mine was literally all sorted within 24 hours. Hope you do get sorted because honestly its awful xx

@Chantelle I've got an appointment on Thursday so I'm going to ask them to take me off it as I'm pretty sure it's them making me sick. I'm not taking it tonight to see how I feel tomorrow
