You’ve got it! Look for the ♿️ sign on the platform for the easiest flat boarding section. Most trains have pram space in every carriage or two. Be mindful that a lot of “step free” routes are for wheelchairs. There’s so many stations which are fine for prams as you can tip them up an inch or two onto the train, wheelchairs can’t do that and step free is for disabled passengers not prams. What’s your route?
Take a travel pram and put little one in a sling. The lifts hardly ever work and it's a nightmare navigating around step free stations! Everytime I've taken my daughter to London a nice person has always helped me up and down stairs! X x
@Sarah picadilly line. My station only has an escalator (that scares me as I’ve never done it before) and the station I want to go to has a flight of stairs and a lift. Hoping someone will kindly help me up the stairs 🤞
Whenever I’ve been to a station with stairs only, someone offers (usually a lady). I live on the Piccadilly line and 9 times out of 10 someone offers help even if I don’t need it 😊
Allow yourself plenty of additional time for getting up and down from the platform on top of the journey time it says online. I went to King’s Cross last month and whilst it was accessible, the lift was small and busy so we had to wait additional time for us to be able to fit and there were two lifts to the top so double the fun! I went from having plenty of time before a lunch booking to being 5 minutes late which I know isn’t much but still.
If you’re using an escalator stand two steps behind the buggy it’s easier not to be too close or far. Hold the buggy up with both hands, can also use your chest to help keep it stable. I’m sure with the stairs someone will help, just ask. Not everyone will offer, I used to have to carry the whole buggy. Also don’t use the escalator if your buggy has one wheel at the front it’s so dangerous. Hope it goes ok x
On citymapper use step free mode for routes with lifts. Take everything you may need and leave 30 mins early so you're not worried about being late. If you don't have to be anywhere any particular time then take your time! Plan stops of your day out at cafes you know will have a baby change like a big M&s / John Lewis/ Costa/ Starbucks. Some tube stations even have one like West Ealing or Ealing broadway
If you are taking the buggy go on tfl website and check which stations have lifts - when you get off the train step off first then take the buggy off backwards (rear wheels first) - also plenty of people will be happy to help if you need a hand! good luck! it’s daunting first time but nothing to worry about!
