Speech Delay

What made you get referred to a speech therapist? I haven’t been able to take my daughter to her two year old appointment bc our hospital doesn’t accept our insurance anymore and I need to find a better pediatrician. My daughter says many words and two word sentences like buckle me, help me, brush teeth. But I help out in a nursery on Sundays and some kids are a few months younger singing songs perfectly. I hate comparing but can’t help but feel like I’m doing something wrong.

My son was not talking at all, so I kept pushing the pediatrician and finally got the okay at the 2 year visit. I completely understand feeling that way. Find another pediatrician and bring it up. While you wait for an appointment, I highly recommend mimicking Mrs Rachel.

At 2, they want kids to be saying 50 words or more. She will only get approved for speech if she doesn’t meet that threshold. You don’t need a pediatrician to refer you to speech. You can just fill out the form on the states website and they’ll schedule an evaluation of the child to see if they qualify, but you will be asked why you think they need speech. My daughter said some words and some were 2 word phrases but we still qualified because she wasn’t saying enough words. They also evaluate them on all cognitive levels, so even if she doesn’t need speech, they could tell you if she’s delayed in other areas. It’s a good resource for any parent but be sure to look at the cost (goes based on your income).

I called birth to three for my son on my own I didn’t wait he was two at the time and I wish I knew to call sooner
