Has your child read the odd word?

Want to see if its normal for his age, reading 5 letter words randomly and sporadically.

I think you'll probably get some mixed answers here, my little girl isn't doing anything like that yet, but well done to your little boy for being able to! x

Is he really reading the word or identifying it? My son can’t read yet but he can identify some words just because he’s seen it a few times. Words like tesco, bluey, asda, ocado etc. I don’t think it’s expected for kids so young to be able to read so if your is starting to do that, bravo. I’d say encourage him more!

It’s hard to tell at the age if they’re just identifying or actually reading like @Manisha said. But either way encourage it more & more ! Even if he’s just identifying words that’s still “ advanced “ so keep pushing him !! X

He read the name Janod on a toy in the store (never said that word to him before), he also read the word 'sweet' on a bag of salad, so not something he would have been told or known. But then I say read this word on this page, but he cant lol

I agree with others but wanted to say, whenever I've asked mine to do or say something she loses all abilities 😂 so if you're saying read blah blah that could be why they're not :)

My son can read quite a few words now but I think he recognises the word rather than using phonics but he can read over 50 now

He 'reads' most of oi frog, its amazing. But 100% he is not actually reading, he has just memorised the story (like a nursery rhyme), and is prompted by the pictures.
