Just curious where have your heard and feeds shouldn’t exceed 5oz? When I’ve expressed for my baby I get more than this
I’m combi feeding. He has formula on Mondays when I’m at work and a bottle when he wakes from his last nap. He usually has 150-200ml per bottle if he’s hungry, other times it can be 120-150. When I’m not here he goes 3-4 hours between feeds and breastfeeding he’s around 2.5-3 hours, but he only feeds for like 10 mins these days. X
@Sophie I’m on a Facebook group for people who express milk and this is the guidance I have seen there . They say generally babies have 1-1.5 oz of breastmilk per hour . But that’s just what I learnt there! They say it’s becuase breast milk adapts to your baby’s needs so the volume stays the same but the nutrients of the milk changes whereas formula doesn’t so babies need more of it as they get older to get more nutrients . How true it is I don’t know! X
@Claire breast milk definitely adapts to your babies needs and becomes more calorie dense, so the quantity doesn’t go up like it does with formula but I haven’t heard that you need to cap it x
@Mish maybe I won’t stress about that then! It was more I feel it’s going to start getting a bit of a muddle if I make small feeds of breast milk and larger bottles when it’s formula . In an ideal world I’d like to give breast milk for all my feeds but sadly I have very low supply
@Claire if you do the same amounts it might just mean they don’t go so long between the formula feeds or it might not make any difference, I’d just see how you get on. And expressing full time is hard!! So definitely don’t be hard on yourself about you supply or that you’re going combi x
@Mish thank you 😊 x
I suppose it will also depend on the age of your baby! I didn’t get this much milk when she was younger and even now the amount I get varies loads!
I’m currently combi feeding. I usually BF him for about 10 minutes while his formula bottle warms up. He then is offered 6 oz bottle. Sometimes he finishes it and sometimes he doesn’t x
