Does anyone have experience transferring OBs?

I’ve had several negative experiences at my OB office and today was sort of the last straw and I officially want to switch. I called the clinic I’d like to switch to and they do accept late pregnancies (yay!) My only question (that the lady didn’t know the answer to) is, we’ve already paid in full the first OBs fee (which was $2k for all appointments, her fee for the birth, etc) so would at least part of that get refunded (since I wouldn’t be completing the rest of the appointments and birth with her) to go towards the new OB??? If no funds get refunded then I’m screwed and won’t transfer. If partial will get refunded, then I’d definitely switch because I’m very frustrated with my current clinic. Anyone go through this before???

I switched at 10 weeks but I had no payments due for anything so I dont know about that

I’m so sorry you’ve had such a bad experience with your OB. I wish I had advice- I love my OB office and I haven’t heard anything before about OB fees and paying them upfront

That’s crazy. I didn’t have any fees upfront for my ob. I’d talk to their finance department and ask, does the new one have fees as well? My last pregnancy when I switched I just started going to the new ob and asked the office of the last one to transfer my records.

I am working with a midwife but their paperwork outlines refunds if we don’t end up delivering with her. It explains how much I’d pay per visit etc. I hope you’re able to get some money back!

@Abby how do you like the midwife route? I was curious but there aren’t too many here lol

Thank y’all! I’m so disappointed. I loved this OB when I first started going. But it’s been going downhill every visit she’s rubbed me the wrong way, and after my appointment today I was just like okay I don’t want to come here anymore.

@Tatianna I honestly don’t know any in my area 😩 and my main concern is about losing the $2k we paid the original OBs office 😩

@Tatianna I love my midwife so far!! She has over 40 years of experience so I feel comfortable with her. I’m planning to have a homebirth. There were only 4 midwife options in my whole city 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Abby are there other OB’s in the same office who you could see? I’ve been rotating between the 4 OB’s in my office because any of them(along with 4 OB’s from a different practice) could deliver my baby depending on who is on call that day if I don’t have a scheduled induction

@Lindsey there are 3 total! I actually saw the male OB at my last appt because my lady was on vacation and I LOVED HIM! I wish I would’ve been with him from the beginning. But now I feel like it would be sooooo awkward to switch to him(it’s a small clinic). And she could possibly still end up delivering my baby if he was out the day I give birth which could be equally as awkward 😂

@Abby I totally understand that! I would say if you aren’t able to get a refund for what you’ve already paid to see if you can switch to him so at least you don’t have to have a bad experience every appointment until you deliver

Depending where you are you may need to fill out a ROI for the new office from the old one - and just notify them you want to terminate care and give them the info for the new office

I was with an OB till 20 weeks and we finally decided to switch to midwives. Didn’t like his attitude toward my husband’s questions. So, yes, do it for you!

@Lindsey I may have to do that, even if it is awkward to still see her on occasion in the clinic. I just want someone that will actually listen to me and let me advocate for myself. Why is it that male OBs are always so much more empathetic than female OBs?! I swear every female OB I’ve had has been so snarky/rude and zero empathy 😫

Just here to say sorry girl! But you definitely want someone you are comfortable with. I will say personally ob appointments are a waste of time if everything is good. They are very quick and they don't really tell you anything. But I will say my ob that delivered my second was great! My first i hated the office and had similar feelings as you did in this post! I wish I had changed!
