I did. Both times! You have to go to the birth certificate office or call the hospital, depending on the error. It took about 3 to 4 weeks for me to get it, both times.
@Stacy omg 😭 so long
I know hun, sorry. That’s on DOH. It usually takes us a couple days only to submit corrections. 6 weeks is what we’re told and that’s the info we pass along.
@Stacy I’m going to try going to the office in manhattan hopefully it’s a little faster because I called the hospital and they told me I needed to go to the office 😭
@Laura Marien did you have to wait for the original to come? It’s been almost 3 weeks and I still haven’t received the original one
The hospital would tell you to go there to fill out a correction form. You can’t go to the DOH office if it was the hospitals mistake. They are required to submit the correction.
@Stacy my problem is I didn’t leave my marriage certificate so they only put me on the birth certificate I need to add my husband and I also spelt his last name wrong 😅
Ohhh no. If that’s what happened then you are responsible to submit the correction. Normally, if it’s adding dad to the BC, I have been told that then turns into a court issue. Being that you’re married and you have the marriage certificate you can try DOH first. You can try on the DOH website but if you can’t do it online you will have to go to the DOH office to do the correction. Corrections that a parent has to make (due to their mistake) has to be done by them and there is a fee. Once the correction is submitted then it can take up to 6 weeks to get the new one. You will also have to bring the original to make the correction is my understanding.
Yes, you have to wait for the birth certificate.
As Stacy said, if it was the hospital's mistake, they will send the correction; you just need to speak to labor and delivery. If it was your mistake, you will need to go to the office, and they will make the correction and they will charge you for the change as well.
@Stacy thank you so much for all the information
I work in L&D. It takes up to 6 weeks to receive a new birth certificate after the correction was submitted. Whether submitted by L&D or by the person themselves. If it has been any longer contact the DOH or hospital where you delivered if they submitted the correction.
