Breastfeeding after C-Section

My first c-section was an emergency and my baby was rushed to nicu with breathing issues so I wasn’t able to breastfeed for weeks afterwards. This time so far the baby looks good and is term. What is breastfeeding like after a c-section? Do you have to wait? Or should I pump right after my delivery? I’m going in tomorrow morning so any advice is much appreciated.

As soon as I got into the recovery room they had the baby on me to try to feed.

You just feed them like normal 😊 actually having an easier time of it this time than I was after my "natural" delivery. Good luck!

As soon as your all closed up, they wheel you into a recovery room and you can start breastfeeding right away.

Personally was breast feeding the same night as my emergency c-section, I was also feeling well enough to be up and walking holding my son just a few hours after I woke up from surgery. I was offered a hospital lent pump on my first actual DAY in the postpartum ward & I did take the opportunity to use it even tho I planned to ebf!

I would also suggest using a nursing pillow to block little one from kicking your tummy. Also I found the most comfortable hold to be the football one so I had that one mastered before even leaving the hospital.

I breastfed as soon as I was out of the operating theatre and my milk came in by day 3!! I never pumped and my supply has been absolutely fine so fingers crossed for you! All I’d say is whenever you’re holding your baby just do skin to skin so they are near the nipple as much as possible so your body will strengthen your supply x

You put them on the breast as soon as you can. No pumping. Pumping can send your breasts into over supply which could lead to other issues like engorgement.
