False Start

My daughter is 11m old now and she has always had a false start at bedtime. Within the last 2 months she was doing a little better and some nights wouldn’t wake until an hour or 2.5hr after I put her down. A majority of the time she wakes up 45-50 minutes after she goes to bed I have tried everything between shorter and longer wake windows before bed, and adjusting naps. Has anyone else struggled with this? Will she just grow out of it eventually?

When is her last nap? I’d bring it up. The last nap at my daughters daycare is at 4 and I always make sure she gets tired. She goes down by 8 and she is KO. Another thing I would do is to try and postpone bedtime thinking that she is not sleepy yet

@Francesca she gets up from her last nap at 330. I aim for a 3.5hr sometimes 4hr wake window before bed.

Is she putting herself to sleep or are you getting her fully to sleep and transferring to the crib? I think it’s much more common when babies are put down already asleep. I’m definitely guilty of this and my son will false start sometimes too.

@Monica she nurses to sleep. I put her to sleep on her floor bed then she will come into our bed halfway through the night. She nurses back to sleep throughout the night

Hey Ashley, I would recommend nursing her 20-30 min before bed and then put her to bed awake, not drowsy. My little guy is also 11 months and he has a 4+ hr wake window before bed. Sounds like she’s not tired enough. I have found the book Precious Little Sleep to be helpful. There’s also a Facebook group where you can get support from other parents (and the author of the book Alexis) on sleep questions.
