Sterilizing bottles

Do you sterilize after every use? Or once a day?

My lactation consultant actually said that for term babies sterilizing isn't necessary and the most up to date practices are getting away from that but we still sterilize at least once per day just to be safe. Obviously you should follow the advice of your own provider.

I just wash everything in super hot water with soap (babyganics brand). I've never sterilized bottles, only my pump parts currently get sterilized and I'm sure I probably don't even do it as often as im supposed to. There's a lot of conflicting information on it and whether it's necessary or not. I just do what works best for me.

I steralizer after every use to prevent thrush. Pump parts i put in fridge for 3 days then wash

@Unique do you rinse the pump parts before refrigerating them? I've seen a lot of conflicting information on that as well and my lactation consultant said it's not safe to do because if there's milk left over in the bottles, it mixes with the new milk and can contaminate it (if your fridge isn't cold enough to stop bacteria growth). I was doing this during my night pumps and then stopped cause I'm paranoid and don't wanna make my kid sick

@Leslie i mean we all eat out the fridge i feel if it wasnt cold enough someone in the house woulda been sick off the milk for our cereal. Id ask ur doc still but i just throw them in. Its at max 2 drops of milk mixing or just rinse first but in the middle of the night i just applaud myself on pumping all these extra pieces to much to clean and my baby is growing and healthy ik theres so much different information out there

@Leslie i don’t refrigerate any bottles with milk only my pump parts like the suction pieces and flanges and like the main part not the bottles

@Unique ah gotcha and yes I feel you on the night pump stuff. There's so many pieces to wash and with my pump i have a spectra pump, the flange and cap are attached so it's one big freaking piece and it's hard and annoying to clean 😫😫😫 I'll find a picture and show you

@Leslie ohhhh i see what u mean! Those i wouldnt recommend refrigerating. Maybe get a wearable where u can detach motor i have a MOMMED s21

Once a day. But I’ll use hot water and dish soap thru the day and before i sterilize it

I just use hot water and regular dish soap

Usually just once a day!

I’ve never sterilized our bottles I’m on baby #2. I just wash in hot water.

I’m gonna be honest I have never sterilized anything 🫣 I just wash with hot water and dish soap
