Elective C section today

I am 39+5 today and having my elective C-section this afternoon and due to a breach presentation. This is my first pregnancy and I am so nervous today but I know what to expect in the theatre. C-section mamas can you please give some advice of tips on how to look after the C-section scar and the recovery process from tomorrow onwards as I am scared of getting an infection or doing something that makes the recovery difficult. NHS is good but Ive heard horror stories about getting post-op care especially with infections etc. so want to avoid it all cost.

I had a c section with my little boy, it’s normal to be scared but you’ll be absolutely fine, the best advice I can give is keep the area clean and don’t over do it, the following day after your c section you will feel weak but don’t worry it’s normal and you have to walk really slow at first but around 3 weeks after your section you’ll start to feel like yourself and by 6 weeks you’ll feel completely normal just make sure you take the pain medication the hospital give you. And don’t be afraid to ask the nurses if you need anything (:

All the best to you for today. I am awaiting a date for my 2nd section (elective this time, was an emergency first time). Honestly try not to fret it, once you're told to remove the plaster just be sure to gently dab with water to wash then gently dab to dry. Make sure its fully dried before putting any clothing over. Best thing I done was made sure all my pants sat pretty high & didn't rub or bother my incision (I heard a lot of people put a liner on their pants incase of any weeping, but I never did). I probably done that for about 5/6wks before I knew I could touch it myself without pain. I'm a very quick healer & even my husband couldn't believe how well the scar was looking after 5days. Just be careful & ensure you don't do too much but try to keep as active as you're able to - all of that really supports your recovery. I did do too much & bled a lot due to that, it's about knowing your own body & limits. You've got this 🥰 x

Firstly congrats! I had a semi-elective for the same reason! Tbh my recovery was great. Once I could walk I got up and had a shower that was like 4-5 hours after my section. It really helped me to feel fresh. I had my catheter out the next day and my dressing removed too. I didn’t have any issues infection wise - I followed the guidance of keeping the scar clean and dry - just would shower water over the area when I washed and pat dried (no wash products used). I also made sure to keep on top of pain relief - don’t miss any. There wasn’t much “care” I had to do with it tbh. I wore high waisted pants so it didn’t rub and that was pretty much it. I also didn’t do too much so it meant I wasn’t straining myself at all. The worst thing for me was the injections for 10 days. You shouldn’t be in long - usually 24 hours and your home. Best of luck for later it’s the most beautiful experience and very calming.

Hey! I had a c section at 38 plus 4, and going into theatre is nothing like I expected! Everyone is really kind, caring and it just feels relaxed! Everyone including doctors etc are just talking amongst themselves about everyday life (mine was speaking about Alton towers whilst he was mid way through my operation to the other doctor!!) it’s so bizarre. I expected it to be really clinical and regimented but it wasn’t! It was actually nice. I don’t have much advice about infections because I sadly got one, not an infection of my scar but internally in my uterus- but let me tell you i wasn’t bad at all, I had a little discomfort - but I took anti biotics and it was gone!! So honestly try not to worry. I know plenty of people who have had sections and no infections! My advice is relax. Take lots of pics and videos! And enjoy it! Good luck x xx x

PS advise after your section get up and more around little and often - don’t lift anything heavy etc for the first 6 weeks xx

Oh congrats, today’s the day!! 😊💕 Take your meds like clockwork, stay mobile to aid recovery, enjoy that first shower, keep your wound clean and dry, drink all the lactoluse they give you and wear big knickers. By next week you’ll feel a lot better and it gets easier every single day. Just focus on today first. Charge those phones up for photos/videos in theatre.

I found getting up soon as you can in hospital take medication every hours even if not in pain at required amounts keep on taking until you feel like nessessaey to stop all high waisted stuff keep wearing maternity gear for few weeks after water and dabbing towel make sure dry after! Enjoy and congratulations x

Take some laxatives/peppermint to help with built up gas and constipation as it’s really difficult to push and those gas pains can be awful! Good luck! Don’t push yourself too hard after, I know people say being mobile helps and it does, but do it at your own pace and stay on top of your pain relief. I also tied a dressing gown rope to the bottom of the bed to help me sit up.

I had c-section 9 days ago. Both myself and partner work as foot surgeons, my mum scrub nurse, his mum retired gynaecologist. I was myself very nervous, even the environment its very common for me and my partner. You will see lots of people in theaters but nothing to worry. I had 2 unsuccessful spinals by a registar but then the consultant did it 3rd time with luck. Procedure wise baby boy was out quick. Then recovery i think about 30 min . I was up and walking 6 h later. KEEP ON TOP OF YOUR PAIN MEDS dont be shy to ask. By 3rd day i was back to kinda normal little pain but fully mobile and doing normal things.. day 5 went out for a walk 5 k steps felt ok. But even home keep taking your meds. You will be ok mama💕

Definitely ask about stool softeners. You don’t want to be straining. Pain meds need to be taken as scheduled as they are preventative. Get up and move as much as you can even though it’s hard - this will help you heal faster. Drink lots of water and eat nutritious foods. It takes a village. Rely on help when it is offered.
