So just background TV? Do you let them sit and watch children’s TV? I try not to. But have softened since around age 2. But I’m uneasy about it. Today someone was watching my child, and he was watching TV - and when I came in and switched it off, he became really distressed. Generally when I pick programmes, he’s actually calmly accepting of switching them off. So my own feeling is that what he was watching was over stimulating.
We watch TV every morning and stick to one show which we just watch on repeat, currently it's Bluey. She is mostly fine when I turn it off but sometimes when she's tired she gets very upset. I do try to limit it to no more than 2 hrs but sometimes i am exhausted 😅 For the rest of the day she is absolutely fine and because we have that routine she almost never asks for it and accepts it easily when I say she can't watch TV.
My 2 year old watches tv in the morning while I get ready for work for about 45 mins. The TV is on when we get home for about 30 mins before tea then after tea probably for another 30/45 mins. She either watches CBeebies, a Disney film (current fav is Encanto) or she loves Danny Go or Cosmic Kids yoga on YouTube. She’s pretty good at knowing when it’s going off and doesn’t get too upset, maybe a shout of HEY but then we go right into the next thing so she’s fine. She doesn’t have a tablet, will occasionally look through photos on our phones
From 2 years old we allowed some screen time but still very limited. Around 20 minute twice a week, then from around 3 we watch a film every couple of months. No phones, no tablets, no background tv, only engaged watching of good content.
No tablets or phones. Less than 2 hours of TV on in the background is okay. Usually do non stimulating shows like pbs.
