My mom breastfed all my 7 of siblings( they’re all 10-26 years younger than me. ) and she said that for the first while her periods were funky while feeding, but eventually they worked themselves out. And not everyone has this issue, but it does affect some.
@Emily phew! So im not just crazy or pregnant again 😂 thank you!
@Saadah hahahah definitely not crazy! It is very normal🥰
@Delainey its weird! Question for your mom - Someone also said theres less chance youll get pregnant while breastfeeding? Or this is an old wives tale?
@Saadah it was not true for my mom. lol. She got pregnant while breast feeding almost every time.
@Saadah it can make ovulation funky so that can affect getting pregnant. But not always the way we want lol.
If I remember rightly your estrogen levels are lower while breast feeding which can help prevent your period from returning or make them irregular. I'm nearly 8 months PP and still haven't had a period. But your period can be irregular without breast feeding it can take a while for your body to get back to normal
Once I stopped my periods are regular, which before pregnancy they weren't. They're very predictable now :)! But during breastfeeding they were a mess
@Saadah not true…I fell pregnant 4m pp (ebf) and 15m pp (still bf)
I got told by my GP that periods can come back at any point with breastfeeding but it’s really common for it to be delayed or be very irregular due to nursing and hormones. I had my first period at 7 months PP and then at 8 months I missed a period, 9 months it came back and I’ve just had another now at 10 months PP so I’m hoping they’re coming back regularly now 🤞 I also have PCOS though so my periods were all over the place prior to having a baby but I’m hoping this is a positive sign to them being regular 🤞 it makes me wonder if mine are coming back due to my daughter nursing less due to eating solids aswell x
100% impacts regularity of periods!
Yes because breastfeeding can stop ovulation. If your baby sleeps through the night or starts going longer between feeds or even uses a dummy for comfort this can make your periods more likely to return to normal. x
@Helen someone said a blessing in disguise! But i dont even want to think about the intensity of the cramps when they do come
@Sharnee oh dang! Congratulations 😳 too many myths made to sound like facts

@Leah yes i got them aswell at six months pp i believe as he started solids but then nothing after, so hoping theyll work themselves out 🤞
@Suzie im hoping he starts going longer between feeds cause im still up most nights switching sides 😢
@Annalise my mom promised me that the cramps get better too!
@Saadah the not getting pregnant is true to some extent... For the first 6 months ONLY and only if baby is purely breastfed responsively with no dummies, bottles, sleep training etc, then a hormone is present which reduces your chances. I can't remember what it is at the moment. But it is considered to be 98% effective for the first 6 months anyway!
@Saadah lots of things can cause bad cramps. Apparently period cramps aren't meant to be awful. My natural periods aren't too bad usually, sometimes they're not great. My last pill made them unbearable, I could barely stand (safe to say I won't be going back on that one). It's been nice not having a period, but part of me get so anxious about when it will inevitably come back because even though mine where regular I could guarantee roughly when it would be
Breastfeeding does have an effect on your period, but it's different for everyone. Once you stop breastfeeding it should normalize and you can go back to your regularly unscheduled blood bath 😂
@Charlotte yeah ive heard chances are low but not impossible lol.i guess it just depends person to person!
@Helen mine were so regular like i know the day and time they are coming but the cramps. Ive been to the er sometimes! Theyre not supposed to be bad but theres apparently no solution to it :/
@Salem speaking of blood baths, i got it right after posting this. And while im happy im normal again, they come with killer cramps!
I’ve been breastfeeding for 10 months and still haven’t had a period! It’s definitely a factor that affects it! Eventually it should regulate once nursing stops :)
