I have some due to pcos, I have been advised that they aren’t anything bad, as it is just eggs that could not be released. I also read about that every woman can have cysts on their ovaries, and that it is possible they go away on its own again. So it could happen that they might be gone the next time you have a scan. You can get them removed I believe, and I’m sure you can get those checked out in more detail to be sure.

@Simone so they aren't anything to really worry about ? How far on are you ? Xx

@Yasmin I have been advised it is nothing to worry about as it is “normal” for my circumstances with pcos. I have my first scan next week so I will see how it goes there and if they can see anymore. They also told me that I can get it looked at further if I want to, but at this point it is nothing bad. So I guess if you want to have it checked out further you can do that too! :)

They found extremely large cysts on both my ovaries at my first scan and I was referred for blood tests and had my case discussed by a MDT. They were SO big. But I had absolutely no symptoms and I don’t have PCOS. Anyway after the blood tests and MDT looking at my scan photos, they determined they were benign simple cysts in the end and just one of those random things, possibly because my ovaries got hyperstimulated during early pregnancy. I had a special cyst scan in the second trimester and they’d shrunk to under half the size! So they just determined to leave them as they’re harmless. Again, I have no symptoms so it’s a random finding. 6 weeks after I have baby they’ll do another scan to see if they’ve shrunk even more and if they have, we’ll leave them. If they haven’t, they said I can decide whether I want them removed or not but since they’re not doing any harm it doesn’t really matter either way, as they’re just benign simple cysts which are super common

Many women have cysts and don’t find out until pregnancy because we never really get scans unless we’re pregnant. The doctors can tell if they’re simple/benign or malignant, and if they suspect anything bad they’ll do the standard blood tests and MDT they did with me to reassure :) I panicked so much at first thinking I had something seriously wrong but turns out it’s super normal and nothing to worry about, so don’t panic!

@Alexandra thank you 🙏 am just really worried I only have one on my right ovary which is under 2cm in diameter. I am just so worried about these things x

One of the small risks in early pregnancy is is your ovaries twisting or the cysts bursting but by the second trimester my doctor said that’s not really a risk anymore as baby gets so big they kind of lock your ovaries in place so they can’t twist lol. But of course if you have a sudden extreme pain, go to A&E as it could mean the cysts have burst. But again, I was told that’s not really common

@Yasmin oh that’s tiny! Really don’t worry :) perfectly normal!

I had a large cyst prior to conceiving my youngest child. By the time I was taken to hospital for surgery my bloods came back to tell me I was pregnant with him. They said it was very likely it would go on its own during the pregnancy. They checked ONLY at my 12 week scan briefly, which it was still there, and then left it at that. However, not even a year after having him I got all my symptoms from it again, eventually got an emergency surgery to remove the cyst which was very large, my ovary and part of my Fallopian tube which had twisted 4 times, resulting in my ovary dying off. My cyst was a dermoid cyst, which is quite a disgusting cyst and forms part of the bodies cells and grows them. I would advise you to stay vigilant, and any concerns speak to a doctor or midwife. I’m not saying this to scare you, but every person is different and experiences different things. Cysts can be so different person to person, so just be mindful of that for peace of mind, to have check ups. :)

Just to add, I had no symptoms of the cyst whilst I was pregnant. But symptoms started after 6 months and the onset was very quick x

I was told at my scan at 8 weeks I have a 4.5 cm cyst on my ovary, the midwife at my booking appointment didn’t seem to worried, she said they will look at it at my 12 week scan and as it was quite big they may scan me every 4 weeks or so to check it’s size.

I have a 6cm one on the ovary I ovulated from and will have it monitored at any scans I have. I know it's there though as if I get up wrong it hurts. They said it should go.down by itself.
