Have you fostered children while having little ones of your own?

If you have, I'd like to know your experiences. Hubby and I have two little ones (in January they will turn 1 and 3). We've talked about fostering children for years now, but he wants to wait till our kids are big enough to talk really well. I'd like to know all the pros and cons you can give me!

We have 2 foster children. They just started college this year but they’ve lived with us since they were 15. They arrived in our home a few months before our first was born. We have two little ones now. I think you should consider the age and the services your foster children might need and if you can take that on right now. We were responsible to get them to extracurricular activities, doc & therapy appts, teaching them to drive, filling out college applications etc. So we had to juggle that, our lives and our new born. The system provided some help but it never quite fully supported them so we had to step up a lot. e.g, all their doc appts were financially covered but we still had to get them to those appointments. Or they paid for 4 hours of drivers ED, so we had to do the rest until they were ready to take the test. That kind of thing. If you think you can take that on (and frankly can afford to, as you will spend your money too) then do it. Otherwise maybe wait till you’re ready.

Yeah you gotta set boundaries! We also have family close and sometimes a grandparent will watch ours instead of sending him to daycare so it doesn't cut down on our time as a family

I haven't, but my parents did when I was 8-9. Coming from a different side of it. It was hard on me. Because they would stay for months and months and then one day leave. And I got attached to them like brothers and sisters. Even though I had already been adopted and had my sister and brother. I thought we would get more siblings. And then they would just leave. It was hard to understand why they were leaving. Why did we get adopted but not them.
