Pgp

Hi I’m 24 +5 and my pelvic girdle pain is getting worse every day. Any other mums to be struggling and how do you ease it. I’m barely able to get out of bed 😩

I would recommend buying a belly support band if you don’t have one already! i just use it if i know im going to be standing/walking for any period of time and it takes the pressure off my pelvis. Also a yoga/pregnancy ball for stretching and movements. I have started to do a lot of movements just in my bed also that are supposed to open the pelvis and just sort of stretch the area. Unfortunately my midwife said it is rarely bad enough at my 25 week appointment to be referred to physio!😭 (tell that to my pelvisssss!!!) but at my 28 week i think i will be referred after weeks of doing these suggestions and not much improvement. These things definitely help take the edge off but I do think its likely you will need a physio referral too if you are struggling to move around now. Definitely bring it up at your appointment as your midwife may not be like mine and will refer you to any help asap but in the meantime that’s what ive been doing at home❤️xxx

My PGP starts up within a few weeks of being pregnant it's terrible and crippling I feel for you I do, nothing helped me although you might get slight relief using a proper belt but I'd recommend reading the reviews to make sure it's safe to wear

Maybe it’s different in different locations, but mine started around 14-16 weeks and I was referred to physio pretty much straight away. I was given some exercises, it seems there is very little you can do though. I’ve found making lifestyle adjustments, such as stopping running, shortening walks, sitting down at work (usually stand all day) and just trying to rest and relax more has helped. Plus baths and using a hot water bottle or wheat bag in evenings when it’s really bad. Sitting down when getting changed etc to avoid standing on one leg and just being really mindful about movements where legs are too far apart, making adjustments. I’m not sure if it’s easing or I’m just getting more used to it. Some days particularly evenings it is hurrendous though so I feel your pain. Sometimes hubby massages it for me- for me in coccyx and right glute mostly or I use some deep heat. I can’t wear a belt due to low lying placenta. I would push for physio referral as it can definitely be done!!

Thank you all for the advice!! I thought it was bad at 18 weeks but this is just getting unbearable. I use a belt when going out and I know I’m going to be walking a lot and try stretching as much as possible. I’ve already mentioned once to my midwife about a physio referral but will definitely have to push again if it’s just going to keep getting worse. Is it too early to use a ball?

no, definitely not too early to use the ball! people get scared of it because it is used to induce labour further on, but as long as you are doing the right stretches and not bouncing it is not going to induce labour xxx

If you're in the UK tell your midwife and you'll be referred to a physio therapist.. i had weekly physio sessions and was given strong pain killers which I only took in the evening to help me sleep as I didn't want my unborn baby to be addicted to them. They also issued me some crutches to help me walk when the pain got too bad. Definitely get some help from doctprs and also get a pregnancy belt to support your belly.

I am in the same boat, it feels like its getting worse by the day I am 25w+5 and as other ladies have said try to avoid being on one leg when changing putting socks on sit down and when I get in and out of the car I lift in and out both legs at the same time… I bought two pregnancy support belts from Amazon- one lighter support and other more hardcore one for walks… I also find that sleeping with pregnancy pillow is key and swimming also helps… We got this/ ee will get through this!
