Colostrum

I know every body is different but I’m worried I won’t produce any colostrum. Been told to harvest it at 36 weeks (in 2 weeks time) but there is nothing there atm and I’m worried it’ll be the same in two weeks. Does it just magically appear once you start to hand express?

Give it a go, but don't be disheartened if you don't succeed. I have several friends who weren't able to get anything and then went on to breastfeed exclusively. I haven't had anything either but my breasts have started to feel a bit more sore again the last few days. I'm also 34 weeks.

I had my baby at 36 weeks and before that I had no colostrum at all. The next morning I did so maybe it does

I feel the same, 34 weeks today and haven’t had a drop so a bit apprehensive about attempting to harvest any in a few weeks time x

I didn’t have any the first time round until about 38 weeks! This time round ive been seeing bits (not collecting) from about 31 weeks. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I tried and tried with my first and got NOTHING, then EBF 🥰

@Adele aww, I want to breast feed so bad as this is my only baby. This gives me hope. What happens if you can’t harvest and baby has low blood sugar? Xx

@Megan I’m being induced at 38 weeks 🙈 by bits do you mean drops? Xx

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, some of us don’t even make any till after birth. I went to the hospital with none at all but within an hour of birth (caesarean) I was feeding her colostrum thanks to the midwives. I’m week 34 now and nothing again with this pregnancy xx

Don’t put pressure on yourself. With my first I didn’t have any, then when he was born it came and so did milk. I will be trying to pump from 36 weeks to get some x

I've never had any milk before giving birth to my two (both late as well) but managed to breastfeed absolutely fine! Don't worry! Xx

I never got colostrum before I had my first child but then I had a great milk supply and nursed for 26 months 😊 so do not be discouraged xx

I didn’t have any and couldn’t express any after trying. I gave up and thought what will be, will be. My daughter took to breastfeeding right away and I fed her until 17 months 🥰xx She was also born via c section which I thought might impact by breast milk!

Think everyones different on this. Im currently 31 weeks, nearly 32 wks and my breasts have been producing colostrum for at least a couple weeks now. (Scared the living daylights out of me when i first noticed it cause i was like 'its too early nooooo!') Im not collecting yet, mainly cause its only a couple drops at a time, every few days. But i found that if i 'tested' the production and sort of 'teased' my breasts while in the bath specifically, that brought on production much quicker than doing the same while dry? Something to try if you're worrying maybe? (I do apologise for the wording of this, my baby brain has me forgetting most words exist and everything i say ends up sounding like a euphemism or extremely sexual)
