VBAC at RUH

Does anyone know about RUH's policy/recommendations on VBACs? Just wondering about people's experiences. My first baby was breech and quite big if that helps at all.

They will follow the NHS guidelines which you can find online. My first was a surprise breech, so it ended in emergency c section. I had my second less than a year later, successful VBAC. I was recommended to have a second c section due to the "increased risk" of having a second so soon. I read up on it and found the "increased risk" was a 2% increase in the likelihood of placental abruption. This wasn't enough for me to offset the pain and recovery of a c section so I declined their recommendation and had my VBAC. Remember that everything they offer is a suggestion, they cannot force you to do anything, so ask as many questions about their suggestions as you can and go away to do your own research and make the choice that's right for you. Good luck.

Thank you for sharing, that's really helpful. It's great you were able to have the VBAC you wanted. I guess I'm concerned that my first was breech and big and who knows the likelihood of those two things happening again is. Mine was a sort of planned c section (they wanted to induce me but I insisted on a scan first thank goodness, which is when they discoverd he was breech). I had him at 41+1 the following day. My body didn't react all that well to the cesarean but the thought of a VBAC going wrong and it ending in emergency c section anyway also terrifies me! I feel like I can't win...

I insisted on scans the second time round to make sure she turned and stayed down! I totally get your fears, have you looked into hypnobirthing at all? It really helped me understand labour and ehat my body would do and be able to approach the whole thing more calmly and confidently.

I did look into it a little the first time around but will definitely do more reading etc this time too. I think I'll be insisting on more scans too. Thank you!
