St Marys vs Wythenshawe

For those mums who have had an experience at both st marys and Wythenshawe hospital, which did you prefer? I'm hearing a lot of really good things about Wythenshawe. I had my first baby at st marys and had a great experience. Both hospitals are exactly 21 mins away from my home too. Which should I go to? (I'm not high risk.)

Are you interested in going midwife-led and the birth centre? That’s what clinched wythenshawe for me as I didn’t want interventions so decided to go for midwife-led and had an amazing experience xx

The birthing suite at Wythenshawe is why I chose it and it was wonderful! I also ended up needing surgery and they could easily transfer me to the hospital side but if I had another I’d choose there. I’ve heard st Mary’s is more “hospital feel” if that makes sense whereas wythenshawe was very much midwife led - so I think it depends on the birthing experience you’re after

my first was born in st mary and had positive experience. i am having my baby no.2 now and i had chosen st mary again x

The sad thing is I’ve only ever praised St Mary’s as I had my first born via emergency c section and had a bunch of complications in labour and they literally kept me and my son alive so I had so much confidence going back for my elective c section the second time around (I had my son 3 weeks ago). But unfortunately I don’t know where to go for any future kids now as the maternity care has gone massively downhill even since 2021 when I had my first 😢 I was in hospital for 3 weeks prior to having my recent son due to being poorly in pregnancy and they did an okay job at looking after me. The midwives are all lovely but going the consultants and the doctors really not very helpful and just kept saying they couldn’t find a problem despite my bloods and levels being really abnormal. Anyway they brought my section forward and got let down and ended up having him the day after after a lot of waiting and worry. The delivery went a lot smoother than my first born and I was over the moon…

* to have a much smoother section and a healthy baby. However the after care I received this time around was absolutely awful. Again midwives I had around me were lovey. But I had a lot of abnormal pains after surgery in my stomach I knew were not normal after having a section before. I felt I wasn’t being taken seriously and I had a basic scan and they said they couldn’t find anything despite them saying I needed a CT scan to find the big issue. There were times I’d press my buzzer over and over and crying in pain and took over an hour to get pain relief. After these scans and check overs I had a very arrogant male consultant tell me that the pain I was having must be “regular pains from being poked around in surgery” I felt so sick at this point I’d been there for 24 days and I’d had enough. My infection markers were dangerously high at 166 but this man told me there was sod all they could do and I could go home if i want on anti biotics cos they’d done all they can. My midwife ..

3 ** begged us to stay as she had seen how much pain I’d been in that day but we couldn’t stand going round in circles any longer and getting nowhere. Cut to day 10 i had a severe bleed. Went to two diff hospitals for scans and diff opinions to be told id had blood clots and retained products (ie bits of PLACENTA) left inside of me which has been causing all these complications and illnesses and why I haven’t bloody recovered to this day! This should never happen and sadly it has 😢I will need risky surgery to remove it but can’t have it till 6 weeks post partum because of the danger. I am Absolutely mortified that not only st Mary’s surgeons did this during surgery but also the fact that not a single consultant or doctor took this seriously and bothered to find the problem. I now have a huge fear of where to trust as sadly nowhere can be trusted anymore. Never in my life did I think my life wouldn’t in capable hands of medical professionals. It’s a sad sad world
