Did you eat okra when pregnant and have a healthy child?

Okra has vitamin A which is only okay in appropriate quantities. So the focus is more on the vitamin A

Im my husband culture there’s a food that’s a lot of okra. I’ve eaten that dozens of times. Never had an issue.

@Rema thanks Rema. The foetus needs vitamin A but not high amounts. I think it's impossible to overdose in everyday meals

Okra is a staple part of the Nigerian diet and people are popping out babies left right and centre over there and here without any issues. It is usually taking additional vitamin A in supplements that will cause a problem unless of course you happen to be eating bucket loads of any one item high in vitamin A.

@Linda this is what I thought and know. I chose okra but it could have been spinach, it was more just about vitamin A. But I lost one baby so I'm just hypervigilant with EVERYTHING

Should be fine in a meal. Vitamin A is high in general multivitamins (non pregnancy one), so that’s not advised.

Yeah and I also ate hummus which people online have said don’t eat hummus when you’re pregnant because of the tahini. I notice there is a lot of rules that apply to cultural foods during pregnancy that don’t exist else where.

Yeah we eat it in our fish head sweet n sour/Tom yum soup. Everything wholesome have vitamins. The elephants ear. The pineapples. The tomatoes. Don’t focus one just one ingredient one vitamin just eat a variety of fruits and veggies, fish and meat and you’ll have a balanced diet and will get vitamins from everything. I’m sure other veggies and fruits have VitA also. I take prenatals but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t actually do much since I’m getting nearly everything I need from foods it only helps if we are actually lacking.

I drank a ton of okra water in my third trimester and my son was fine:)

I had no idea you weren’t supposed to eat okra omg 😭 i’m from the south I LOVE fried okra and I also thought it helped make labor smoother? idk tho I prob read that on reddit

@Amber 𓆩❤︎𓆪 the issue isn't really okra per se. It's TOO MUCH vitamin A which can be found in lots of foods e.g. spinach. Eating okra in moderation shouldn't be an issue.
