Persuading toddler to nap

My toddler definitely still needs a nap. However I’m really struggling to get him to even lie down in his bed and try to nap ( I’m 100% certain if he did that he would fall sleep!). Any suggestions of things that have worked for you? Thanks!

I still help my son get to sleep. I just make the room dark and put sleep sounds on and then we have a little story and I pat his bum until he’s asleep

He may not need the nap. My son was taking over an hour to go down for his nap and same for bedtime. So I cut out the nap and bedtime was a lot easier. He was ready to drop the nap

Yeah defo think by this age they don’t necessarily need it. I mean if she fell asleep on sofa I would probably leave for half hour. But I’m more than happy for an earlier bedtime x

Agree, some toddlers don’t need to but he absolutely has needed it this week as he’s been recovering from being ill and yet still wouldn’t even try. Rubbing his eyes, super emotional etc but wanting the control of deciding not to sleep. Today he fell asleep in the car in less than 2 minutes! He’ll nap fine at nursery too, just won’t at home x

My little girl turned 3 a few days ago and we go through this every couple of months 🙃 she still needs a nap most days and struggles through the day like your little one but is adamant she doesn't want to go. I feel that the more I suggest it, the worst she is so I usually ask her if she'd like a sleep and tell her that she will feel better after, less grumpy etc and 30 mins later, usually she will 'decide for herself' 😆 hopefully your little boy will get through this phase and realise that napping is great!
