I was planned for an elective but ended up going into Labour and having an “emergency” c section. Which wasn’t really an emergency, they did everything the same as they normally would, it just meant they got me in the same day, I imagine it would be the same for you? There is no harm in asking for an earlier date.
I’m in EXACTLY the same situation and it’s stressing me out like you wouldn’t believe! Which hospital are you at or area of country?x
Following out of interest, I thought all planned csections were your 39th week so therefore would be somewhere inbetween 39-40. Unless there was a medical reason to bring it earlier. I have my consultation at 32 weeks where I was hoping I’d get a date, but maybe I won’t 😬 getting a date in advance was a big part of my decision to go elective instead of vbac.
@Laura I’ve been told it could be 39th or 40th week due to backlog and low staff as it’s Xmas week - not sure how the nhs lack of staff should mean my birth choice suffers but there you go! Wouldn’t of thought number of babies fluctuates or drops at Xmas just cause it’s Xmas so why would they understaff themselves - very frustrating when you choose a section for personal reasons and then staffing levels cause even more stress and anxiety x
I had an urgent C-section after over 30 hours of labour and I was 39 weeks 6 days. In my experience, I found that it can be helpful doing it this way, as my milk had more time to come in, he was lower so they didn’t have to push him down during the procedure and he needed no interventions which can be necessary when birthed earlier 🤷🏾♀️ my biggest suggestion would just be to make sure that you get the epidural when you can so that you can be awake during the C-section. I was told that if I didn’t have it, they would have had to put me to sleep. Also, my incision scar healed phenomenally, very difficult to even see where it was (though it is on a fold line as I have an overhang)
My emergency C-section scar was way better than my planned one. You never know if someone on the planned list will have to go in early and open a spot for you. With my son I was lucky for a spot when someone went into labor early I was so excited. Ended up having to go in early because of health stuff but still! Openings pop up!
@Lizzie I'm in the central Birmingham trust
I'm in the same boat hun...also in the UK. I got told by a dr at 34 weeks that they would request my c section date for the 5th December and to wait for a call from them to confirm the date...I heard nothing then at 37 weeks they told me they were full and they have booked me in for the 10th december when I will be 40 weeks! It pissed me off because I had my birth chat with the midwives on the 3rd November and they went on and on about how nice the planned c section is from the emergency and it's so relaxed and blah blah blah and then they have basically pushed me on to 40 weeks. I also have a feeling I will most likely probs go into labour early. I have had two previous c sections, both emergencies so would have been nice to have a planned one where it was abit more chill than rushed. I don't even have the option for a natural as this pregnancy was too close with my last one 😩
I'm in the UK, on NHS btw
