What do you mean by semi elective? C-Sections are categorised and they’re either elective or not?

I was told that there’s a semi elective C-section and an elective C-section where the elective you have a slot so that’s what I’m trying to ask because I was told to just go into the hospital sometime next week for a semielective C-section so I’m just wondering if anyone’s had one that knows what happens and how it works.

That sounds absolutely nuts to me, they would have to give you a date/time for a planned section rather than turn whenever you want - they need a team (theatre scrubs, midwives, anaesthetists, obstetricians, recovery staff) they need a theatre, they need a bed, you should have had pre-op done 24-48 hours beforehand, taken antacids within the 24 hours before. I’m a midwife and never, ever, ever heard of this, it would be absolute chaos! If you want a c-section, ask for a date/time to attend. This sounds completely bizarre to me!

Yeah I was told to just come in and just wait for the all the sections booked for that day and when they are not busy they will fit me in I’m going to ask for further information and details .

I guess the issue with that is, you could be waiting all day and then get sent home because they’ll have unplanned emergencies too. All of which can go beyond people’s shift times and after which, wouldn’t be safe to work
