Daily Kick Off

My little boy, no matter how much daytime sleep he gets (an hour / 30 mins nap) he wakes up and has an absolute meltdown. I never wake him he wakes himself but it’s incredibly draining to deal with everyday. Especially in public. Does anybody elses LO do the same? Or can anybody help as to why this happens? I’m really stuck and at my wits end 😳😞

My lo also does but at night but not regularly.No clue what to do.

@Auntu he’s so consistent every day after his nap he does this for about 20 minutes. No way to console him, he goes to bed and wakes up normally absolutely fine 🥲

How long has he been doing this for? I can’t watch the video (this gale force wind is making our WiFi/5g go mad) but it looks as though he is teething with those Rosy cheeks? It sends them totally wappy! We had a few weeks of this and tantrums and clinginess and I put a torch in her mouth and 2 molars were coming in at the same time, these ones are brutal for them so could well be why he’s like this. Poor things! It is hard for us too x If not molars does he watch tv or progs before his nap? Try switching up the time so it’s atleast 2 hours before he goes down if he does

That would suggest to me that he's not ready to be awake. What do you do when he first wakes up from the nap? What time does he nap?

@Cara few weeks. I don’t force him to nap he just sleeps as and when and for however long. I can try see about the molars but it’s only a nap that stems it, he doesn’t cry or fuss any other point through the day? X

@Natalie I thought that but nothing wakes him, he wakes himself and it doesn’t matter to duration of the nap it’s the same outcome - he doesn’t have a set nap it’s just whenever he falls asleep

@Ellie Same here 😔

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/sleep/220221-my-toddler-wakes-up-from-afternoon-nap-and-cries-hysterically I’ve not read it but looks like this is quite a common thing!

@Cara thanks I’ll look

@Ellie id personally try to have a set nap time so he knows whats coming. I find when my daughter wakes up sometimes a cuddle helps to comfort her back to sleep then she does a bit longer and wakes up in a better mood

@Natalie we used to but now he’s at nursery the naps out the window 😞 sometimes I encourage so much to sleep he almost protests to stay awake!

@Ellie my daughter doesn't nap at nursery but at home she has a set routine cos otherwise overnight is awful. I have a set time we try for a nap and it generally works.

My nephew used to do this too
