i feel like a horrible mother

As the 1 year mark is approaching. I feel like a terrible mother. My daughter is still only eating purées and still not really into solids still. I have tried over and over. It stresses me out horribly. I’m scared to make the switch to whole milk knowing food is now the primary source of nutrition. I’m scared she won’t get the proper nutrients.

Tell your pediatrician at your 12 month visit. Make sure you can answer questions like how often do you try solids, do you try different textures, do you wait long enough after a bottle, etc. Don’t feel bad. A lot of babies struggle with solids, your dr will just want to figure out what’s going on and if help is needed

Hi!! does your little one have any teeth yet? I’m asking because my daughter doesn’t have teeth yet so I think that is some of the problem too. But I just went through this same feeling with my LO. I waited until her 1 year appointment to talk to the doctor about switching her over to whole milk. It takes some transition. My daughter barely eats solids, either. When I had my apt with the doctor she said it really takes some time and every kid is different! She told me not to worry yet, and that she would like to see her eating solids soon but I don’t think they are expected to eat 3 full meals a day. They should still be getting 24-32oz of whole milk a day for a little while anyways. Have you tried giving her yogurt pouches or the squeeze tubes? Maybe the puffs? My daughter loves those.

@Meghan my daughter doesn’t have teeth either. & wow that makes me feel so much better. Everyone I have talked to told me only 16oz of whole milk so I have been freaking out like no way my daughter can only have that much. It would be a big big change.

I have always heard no more than 16oz whole milk too, but let’s see what your Dr says. They won’t let your baby go hungry! Mine only has 2 bottom teeth and I think that plays a roll too

What!!! I mean my doctor said to me at least for a little while they are still on 4 bottles a day and eventually try to transition them to having a bottle only with breakfast lunch and dinner and taking away the bedtime one. Don’t feel bad, it’s stressful but you will get there !! My doctor also discussed that if it ever became an issue they have things like food therapy to help them! I’m sure she’ll be fine :)

Girl my daughter has 4 teeth and teething. All she knows is purre food and formula. I'm about to give her whole milk and still use the pure and try mashed up mushy foods. It's a one step at a time type of thing! Your not a bad parent. Every kid is different. You can ask your doctor on what they want you do to for food and what they suggest but you can't force a child to get solids like we do until they are ready but keep trying every so often so she does get used to that.

Mine is almost a year too, 2 teeth up and 2 down, he can eat sólido but I think he decides not too, so he is mainly on purees but I think he is fine as long as his weight is ok and development is good

You don’t have to switch to whole milk right away. We waiting until our son was More onto solids before we switched which was about 16/17 months

I'm literally in the same situation. My daughter will be one on the 20th and has her 2 lower teeth. I'm going to speak to her doctor about it in her next appointment.

Don’t stress it too much, a lot of kids go at their own pace with solid foods but some things we did that worked well: Mixing some baby oatmeal into the purées to thicken the texture gradually. Mashed avocado. Started out mashing with some formula to make it extra thin and smooth, then just mashing plain, and let it get chunkier over time til we were able to just give a slice. Mashed banana the same way as the avocado. Mashed up potato as well. We always gave baby some of our food while eating together to play with. At some point she started tasting things and experimenting. Whenever she was teething or getting chewy we would give her things like frozen banana or a cold mango pit with some fruit still on it to chew on. Bottle timing was also pretty important. I would give like 2oz of formula when she was getting hungry so she wasn’t starving and upset, but would still be hungry for food when it was ready. And then offer a full bottle after she was done.
