Sciatica

Anyone have any tips on easing sciatica pain? I don’t normally suffer with it but I am really struggling with it with this pregnancy. Some days I can barely walk as the pain is so bad.

Ask your midwife to refer you to physio! My physio gave me these tips: -hot water bottle on the area 4 times a day so it’s used as a preventative -don’t stay in the same position for longer than 30 minutes -sleep on a soft surface she told me a folded double duvet would do - get a belly band -rest when you can don’t over do yourself (although quite hard for me because I have a 1 year old)😂 I have sciatica along with pelvic girdle pain I’d say hot baths and hot water bottles along with wearing the belly band for max 2 hours is what helps the most but it doesn’t always help! I’ve got physio again next week and I’m dreading telling her it’s just getting worse😂

I feel you! I spent the last 2 and a half weeks with pain. What helped me at the beginning of inflammation was alternating between hot and cold packs. I also did two sessions of massage (I found a lady that is a specialist in sports injury and pregnancy) so it's been amazing. But still no pain free as the pain comes and goes, but after the massage and muscle release it definitely got better. Another game changer for me was increasing the size of the cushion I use between the legs to sleep. I didn't realise that my hips were so big now, my previous cushion was too thin for the size I am now (lol)

Thank you both! I will give my midwife a call tomorrow and have a look for a belly band too. I use a hot water bottle as much as I can. I have an almost 2 year old so in the same boat with not being able to rest too much

Oh I get that, my almost 2y old is a hurricane, so no rest.... What belly band do you two recommend? I hear it is difficult to find one that really works
