My son is speech delayed.Self and my husband were as children too. Both late talkers. It is genetic. We suspected possible hearing issues due to fluid being in his ears. Have you had her hearing checked?
All three of my boys had/have speech delays. All of them i was told they may be autistic. Took my oldest to a speech therapist and said no, he's not. We took our middle child to child psychologist, and she said the same thing that he's not autistic. My oldested ended up being diagnosed ADD and my two younger boys have sign of ADHD (their dad is also ADHD) they didn't start speaking until almost the age of four and my 2 year old is nonverbal.
@Sarah thank you for your reply. The comments I’ve had are mainly around her not playing the same as the other children her age but I just think that’s because she can’t communicate like them, did you find that with your boys?
So I have a non verbal toddler who is autistic however my oldest son who is 16 didn’t speak properly until he was 4 and he doesn’t have autism
Yes, all of my boys would play alone. My oldest in preschool wanted nothing to do with the other kids. My middle child didn't care either when my friends would bring their kids over he'd still play alone. My youngest is currently the same. I think it does have a lot to do with communication. Now that my oldest and my 4 year old can talk, they have friends, and they want to play with other kids. My 4 year old is extremely social now.
@Sarah thank you, this makes me feel much better. My daughter is not interested in playing with other children, she will play alongside them and interact with younger children a little but that’s all
My little guy is 2 (almost 26 months) and every person he has seen regarding the speech delay seems to think he has no concerns for autism as of right now because otherwise his development is quite "on par" with where it's "supposed" to be. There are lots of kids who are just late speaking without having autism spectrum disorder!
