Lip tie

Has anyone dealt with baby having a lip tie and affecting breastfeeding? The lactation specialist noticed it in my little guy this afternoon, and we see the pediatrician tomorrow. I feel so horrible that I didn't notice his problem nursing until now and it's affected his weight.

My daughter has a tongue tie.and she just.had hers cut

Mine has a tongue tie and I didn’t cut. It was difficult at first to breastfeed but now he it’s easy

Mine had a lot tie it wound up resolving itself but made breastfeeding really hard

Yes we just got our baby’s lip tie lasered last month, it’s really no big deal. It the baby is losing weight, insurance might cover it

Lip ties should resolve themselves as their mouth grows. Did the consultant not give you exercises to do to stretch it out a bit? Fixing a lip tie only helps breastfeeding like less than 10% of cases so we didn’t do it…one tongue tie can be different. This was my baby’s issue but at 3 months she’s been breastfeeding and gaining weight just fine.

@Daniela, we went to the ENT clinic at Children's Hospital, and between his huge drop in weight and how tight his upper lip is, it was advised to get it released. The lactation specialist also recommended it as he cannot do the exercises to stretch it because it's too tight.

My son was tongue/lip/cheek tied and couldn't latch until we got them revised. He would also leak milk from a bottle. Because of that, I thought I knew what I was looking out for but because she was nursing decently I missed my daughters until we went to her 4 month checkup and found she wasn't gaining like she should. I had a lactation consultant come and we realized she is actually tied. You are not alone!
