What happens if I go past my due date?

What the title says. Do you choose between C section or being induced or do you just get induced? Sorry if it’s a dumb question!

Your trust will usually have a date that they will be happy for you to go to so my trusts is 41+5 unless there’s a clinical reason they want the baby to come out sooner. They’ll usually give you the option of being induced or a C-section if baby hasn’t come naturally 🙂

You will be offered either but you don't have to choose either! You can go as long as you want but will be told the risks of 42+ and have regular monitoring if you wish to go over 42 weeks. But most people will naturally go into labour between 38-42 weeks. Don't forget dating scans are not 100% accurate. I got induced with my first at 41+1 only because I have back issues and I'd had enough x

So currently I am high risk but 37 weeks I’ve just had my consultant appointment after my 36 week growth scan and because of me being high risk they have said they don’t want me going past my due date so I have an induction booked on the 7th of January and my due date is the 8th of January if you’re not high risk then they will let you get to 41 weeks usually And then they will talk to you about an induction I’ve already got one booked in so they should book you one in when you get around 37 to 38 weeks

I went into labour naturally at 40+6 with my first but I think it will differ with every situation and county with what they offer tbh x

So due date isn't a deadline. In fact that point over 50% of babies won't have arrived if spontaneous. And it's more likely to be even later of first time. Check evidence based birth website if want research. Assuming everythings looking good for you and baby heathwise. Generally hospital won't be bothered and consider induction etc until At least 41weeks. And up to 42weeks is when they start to get concerned. But basically be prepared for a wait. 🙂
