Baby not crawling

My little girls is 9 months old and she’s not crawling yet or sitting up from lying down position. She shuffles around to the sides on her belly and backwards but she absolutely hates floor time now will only play sitting up or wants to be held to be walking around. She gets herself in to the all fours position and rocks back and forth but only in her cot when she’s giving out when going down for a nap. How do I encourage her to start crawling or sitting up? I have tried moving her toys further away and helping her sit up but she just screams the house down.

My little girl started crawling on Saturday she hated getting onto all fours before that. On the times she did do it she would be fine for a few minutes and then just start crying her eyes out. Honstely all I can suggest is persevere with it . She refuses to roll from her back still but about 2 weeks before she started crawling she learnt to get into a sitting position from tummy time .

Don't stress too much about it, sounds like your LO is on the right track and just figuring it out in her own time. Mine started rocking on all fours, then sitting by herself, then crawled over the space of about 3 weeks. Finally started crawling yesterday at 9mo3wk. She rolled around for ages and was much happier just sitting and playing. She never liked tummy time and was a bit late rolling too. But claps, waves, copies sounds, good pincer grip... focussed on other things first and just didn't fancy crawling 😅

Mine isn't doing any moving at all and doesn't seem to want to any time soon x

Try not to worry about it (she says, also worrying about it 😅). My little one is nearly 10 months and isn’t crawling or making any moves towards crawling. If I put him on his tummy he either rolls over, pancakes, or cries. He sits really well but won’t pull himself up to sitting. According to data from the world health organisation babies start crawling between 5.2 months and 13.5 months, and 5% never do. If they’re on the later end that’s still a few months away whilst still being in the normal range. And I’ve talked to parents of older children who said their children didn’t start crawling until 18 months, but have no developmental issues and their kids are doing everything you’d expect now. I find it hard not to worry when all the other babies of my son’s age are crawling at baby classes but just think of it as bonus time where we aren’t having to run around after them!

My little boy has only started crawling yesterday he would get into the all fours position and rock he was doing that for weeks and over night he is crawling, I would get on all fours with him and help him move his legs while he moves his arms. X

My little girl isn’t crawling either. We had a home visit for the 10 month health review engender though she has just turned 9 months. HV said she will check in in 8 weeks and may refer her to the physio as she hates to bare weight on her feet. But also told me she’s just so happy that maybe she’s just happy playing sitting up.

My little boy is 9 months and isn’t doing anything, he rolls everywhere but he just wants to sit and play. He can’t get up to sitting from lying down either x

My twins are very similar in that they’re practically only interested in crawling when they’re in their cot. Including at 1am. I keep trying in the day hoping to help reduce the wake up but they hate doing it in the day. I wouldn’t worry though, she is showing interest and is only likely to go at her own pace. I do hover my girls in the air and move them around making daft driving noises, they usually enjoy this and move their hands and legs as though they are crawling.

My little man's just started army crawling this past week or so, he's been trying to crawl for a few weeks, went backwards for a bit. He can't sit up though, can if put into a sitting position for a minute or two but barely. My little girl at this stage was taking her first steps, so every baby is different. It's all a waiting game. They go from immobile to roaming around so quick! Blink and they'll be under your feel in no time. Try not to worry too much. It'll happen.

Thanks girls for the reassurance! I try not to compare her to other babies but it’s so hard to not worry and question yourself when you see other babies in similar age zooming around crawling and some even starting to stand up by themselves holding on to furniture!!

@Monica I compare my baby all the time and get myself all wound up and anxious that she isn't doing what she's meant to, then all of a sudden she can do it! But like even though she physically isn't there with crawling etc... she's miles ahead with talking so whilst it is hard to do the comparing is just not good because they're all so different! They'll figure it out eventually or so I've been told even though it's hard to believe in the moment🤣

@Monica we all do it and then tell others not to compare 😅 a natural side effect of being a parent I think!

My LG isn’t crawling either and not sitting up from completely flat, she has always hated tummy time, she is so frustrated because she wants to get around but obviously can’t… all I can say is that every baby is different, I’ve talked to so many mums having babies skipping crawling altogether , some zooming around crawling at 7 months old, some shuffling on their bums, some start walking ‘ late’ because they are so comfy with crawling… mine wants to stand up all the time ( bear weight) and I’m like, girl, let’s work on you not being stuck on your tummy first !

My boy is not doing any of that He just likes sitting up to play and will lean toward to grab anything he needs. he is not rocking and does not go onto all fours. Babies do everything in their own time.

Some will probably just go straight into walking it's quite common my first started crawled quite early on she was off but my second he just wants to stand all the time hates being on his front gets so frustrated trying to crawl and kicks right off they boys are more lazy but some just want to go straight into standing/walking
